This booklet contains all the information regarding inter-school competitions organised by Surrey Schools' Cricket Association. Details of other Under 11 competitions organised by SCF, (i.e. Connellan Trophy & Kwik Cricket Competitions) will be circulated to competing schools in due course. There will also be Plate Competitions at U12, U13 and U14, in addition to the U15 T20 Vase. These will use the same Playing Regulations as the ESCA U15 T20. The Plate Competitions will involve Preliminary and First Round losers from the main U12, U13 & U14 competitions respectively, as well as direct entrants. The Girls’ competitions at U13 and U15, and the Geoff Richards Trophy will be played initially in groups with the Group winners and some of the best runners-up going forward to the Play-Offs. It is essential that matches are played by the specified limit dates and that the results are notified promptly. If there are difficulties, please consult the relevant competition administrator at the earliest opportunity. Do not wait until the deadline. It is essential that the highest standards of sportsmanship and behaviour are upheld at all levels of cricket. Coaches and managers are asked to ensure that all players are aware of the MCC Spirit of Cricket. Details are available via the SSCA website. Further information on the activities of Surrey Schools’ Cricket Association is available on the SSCA website (www.ssca.org.uk), or from the contact below. Entry to competitions is open to all schools and colleges affiliated to Surrey Schools' Cricket Association, and to guest schools subject to the fees and conditions set out in the Constitution of the Association (Para.13) 2. All children participating in these competitions must be under the appropriate age-limit at midnight on 31 AUGUST 2016. 3. The first-named school in each pairing shall be the home school, unless mutually agreed otherwise, and shall be responsible for the match arrangements, and for making initial contact with the opposing school. The first-named school should offer at least two proposed dates to the opposing school. 4. It is the responsibility of both schools to inform the relevant competition administrator of the match result within 48 hours of the match being concluded. Schools with their own SOCS microsite can also enter the result, inc scores, directly on to the site. 5. Finals will be arranged by the Association on neutral grounds, where possible, and with neutral umpires. Where possible, dates and venues of finals are notified on the draw sheets. Published dates of finals will only be changed due to circumstances beyond the control of the Association and the schools involved. Where a school cannot make a published final date, the team should be withdrawn at the earliest opportunity. 6. All matches shall be played by the relevant limit date. Extensions will only be granted after prior consultation with the competition administrator, and only in very exceptional circumstances. Schools failing to adhere to this rule will be eliminated. 7. Participating schools will comply with ECB Regulations on Close Fielding, the ECB Fast Bowling Directive and the ECB Guidance on the wearing of cricket helmets. A team can consist of 12 players of whom 11 may bat and only 11 field at the same time. a) The length of the innings shall be 20 overs. The Final will be of 20 overs per side. One hour and fifteen minutes allowed to bowl the 20 overs. b) Each side must face 5 overs to constitute a match. c) A new ball must be used for each innings. 3. 4. No player may bowl more than 4 overs (reduced proportionately for reduced over matches). If a bowler breaks down, the remainder of the over will be bowled by another bowler. Such part of an over will count as a full over when working out each bowler’s limit. The side which scores the most runs shall be the winner. If the scores are level, the teams shall complete in a one over per side eliminator to determine the winner. a) The team batting second in the match will bat first in the one over eliminator. b) The loss of two wickets in an over ends the team’s one over innings. c) The side that scores the most runs in the one over eliminator will be the winner. d) In the event of the teams having the same score after the one over per side eliminator being completed the process will be repeated until a winner is decided. If adverse conditions of weather or light interfere with normal play, the umpires can rearrange the number of overs to be bowled to ensure where possible both teams receive the same number of allocated overs, which must be a minimum of 5 overs to enable a result. If a minimum of 5 overs per innings cannot be achieved a bowl-out (see APPENDIX E) will be organised. In the last resort the captains will toss a coin to decide the winner. In matches where the number of overs have been re-arranged due to interruptions or delays the following will apply: a) If the stoppage occurs during the first innings overs will be reduced to enable both teams the opportunity to face the same number of overs (ensuring this is a minimum of 5 overs for each innings) b) If the stoppage occurs during the second innings, overs can be reduced accordingly to ensure a result is obtained c) If the number of overs for the team batting second has to be reduced to fewer than the number of overs allocated to the team batting first, then the target score shall be reduced according to the average run rate of the team that batted first. Wide Balls Umpires are instructed to apply a strict and consistent interpretation in regard to this Law in order to prevent negative bowling wide of the wicket. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. No Balls There will be no free hits for no balls. 11. In the semi-finals and finals of U15 and U14 boys’ competitions, Fielding Restrictions will apply. a) b) At the instant of delivery, there may not be more than 5 fielders on the leg side. Fielding Restrictions (see APPENDIX D) will apply. 12. Where possible, the length of the pitch and sizes of equipment for younger pupils should conform to the ESCA recommendations. 13. The ECB regulations concerning close fielding by young players will apply to all matches according to age (see APPENDIX C). 14. The ECB guidance on the wearing of cricket helmets by young players will apply to all matches. 15. In the U15 Vase and the 3 Plate competitions, the penalty for any wides or no-balls will be 2 runs in addition to any runs scored. No extra balls will be given except in the last over of the innings. 5 PLAYING REGULATIONS: (all other competitions, excluding Pairs competitions) The Laws of Cricket (2000 Code 5th Edition -- 2013), including the size of bat, ball and wicket, will apply, with the following exceptions: 1. 2. A team can consist of 12 players of whom 11 may bat and only 11 field at the same time. The length of the innings shall be as shown in APPENDIX A. For U12 & U13 competitions, semi-finals will be 20 overs and the Final will be 25 overs. 3. The maximum number of overs per bowler shall be as shown in APPENDIX A. (reduced proportionately for reduced over matches). If a bowler breaks down, the remaining balls will be bowled by another bowler. 4. 5. 6. a) If the start is delayed by rain, overs will not be deducted until one hour after the scheduled start. From that time the overs will be reduced at the rate of one over per further 3 ½ minutes lost down to a minimum of ten overs per side remaining. b) If rain interrupts play, overs will be reduced at the rate of one over per 3½ minutes lost from the time of the interruption, unless such an interruption occurs in the first hour. Should the interruption occur in the first hour then regulation 6a) will apply. 7. If rain curtails a match, the following rules will be applied: a) If the stoppage occurs during the first innings overs will be reduced to enable both teams the opportunity to face the same number of overs (ensuring this is a minimum of 10 overs for each innings) b) If the stoppage occurs during the second innings, overs can be reduced accordingly to ensure a result is obtained c) If the number of overs for the team batting second has to be reduced to fewer than the number of overs allocated to the team batting first, then the target score shall be reduced according to the average run rate of the team that batted first d) If a minimum of 10 overs per innings cannot be achieved a bowl-out (see APPENDIX E) will be organised. In the last resort the captains will toss a coin to decide the winner. 8. Wide Balls Umpires are instructed to apply a strict and consistent interpretation in regard to this Law in order to prevent negative bowling wide of the wicket. No Balls There will be no free hits for no balls. 9. 10. Where possible, the length of the pitch and sizes of equipment for younger pupils should conform to the ESCA recommendations as set out in APPENDIX B. 11. The ECB regulations concerning close fielding by young players will apply to all matches according to age (see APPENDIX C). 12. The ECB guidance on the wearing of cricket helmets by young players will apply to all matches. 13. In the semi-finals and finals of U15 and U14 boys’ competitions, Fielding Restrictions (below) will apply. a) At the instant of delivery, there may not be more than 5 fielders on the leg side. b) Fielding Restrictions (see APPENDIX D) will apply throughout the innings. 6 NATWEST COUNTY CUP (U15) Holders: REED’S SCHOOL / TIFFIN BOYS’ SCHOOL (shared) Results and/or queries to: Phil Everest FIRST ROUND by Sat 13 May 020-8660 5889 SECOND ROUND by Sat 27 May COL FREEMEN’S CARSHALTON BSC STANLEY PARK HS ) ) ) TRINITY WALLINGTON CGS CATERHAM ) ) ) ST JOHN’S GEORGE ABBOT GLEBELANDS REIGATE GS RUTLISH SOUTHBOROUGH ROYAL RUSSELL ) ) ) ) ) ) THIRD ROUND by Wed 14 June ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) e-mail: [email protected] SEMI-FINALS by Sat 24 June ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) FINAL w/b 26June ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) 07932 644849 FINAL w/b 26 June (Finalists will toss a coin for the right to host the Final) REED’S ST JAMES’ SEN.
