A FLEET AT THEIR FEET: GUESTS ENJOY EXCLUSIVE BOATING EXCURSIONS
FROM DOCK AT HARBOR VIEW HOTEL’S DOORSTEP
2012 Season Launches with Sunset Cruises, Sailing Lessons and Flotilla Parties;
Private Boaters Can Berth at Harbor View Slip Year-round and Enjoy Full Hotel Services
EDGARTOWN, Mass. – April 26, 2012 – “And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
and the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.” Martha’s Vineyard
travelers who share poet John Masefield’s “Sea Fever” will find a warm welcome at the historic
Harbor View Hotel. The classic Vineyard haven, fronting its own private dock at Edgartown
Harbor, the island’s premier sailing and yachting destination, has unveiled its 2012 Waterfront
Program, which puts a fleet of four fine boats at guests’ disposal. Under the direction of
Captain Doug Heil, the program ranges from sunset harbor cruises and flotilla parties on
Stardust, a 39-foot all-wooden picnic yacht, to fishing trips or Nantucket Island hops on Scout, a
31-foot, fast and sleek fishing and adventure boat. Also offered are sailing lessons and
excursions on the hotel’s 14-foot centerboard sailboat and its J24-foot keelboat. Four additional
slips are available for private boaters who want to enjoy full hotel services and amenities while
staying onboard their own vessel.
Boat charters and excursions are arranged through the Harbor View Hotel’s own waterfront
concierge. Spring (May 24-June 22) and summer (June 23-September 4) excursions and rates
include:
Stardust
A cruise on the one-of-a-kind Stardust takes guests back in time to 1960’s New England. One of
the first “picnic yachts,” this 39-foot all-wooden boat was built in 1966 by Bunker & Ellis and
has been restored to its original condition with many modern enhancements. Stardust is
available daily for Sunset Harbor Cruises (2-hour rates start at $65 per person in spring/$75
summer; private charter for up to six people $350 spring/$400 summer); and Custom Private
Adventures ($200 per hour spring/$250 summer).
Scout
A fully equipped, smooth riding, twin-engine center console fishing and adventure boat, the 31-
foot Scout is available for excursions from Newport to Nantucket, reaching speeds of up to 40
mph. Scout can be booked for a 3.5-hour Vineyard Tour ($500 spring/$700 summer), five-hour
Nantucket Island Hop ($675 spring/$925 summer; seven-hour trips also available), 3.5-hour
Inshore Fishing ($525 spring/$725 summer; five- and seven-hour trips also available); 1.5-hour
Chappy Adventure ($250 spring; $375 summer); and Custom Private Adventures ($200 per
hour in spring/$250 summer). Offshore Fishing bookings are also available; call for rates.
Club 420
The Vanguard Club 420 is a 14-foot centerboard planning dinghy – the most commonly used
boat in junior sailing, high school and collegiate racing programs throughout the U.S. A fun and
physical boat to sail, it can be booked for sailing lessons for one or two students (depending on
size) at a rate of $65 per person, per hour in spring and $85 per person, per hour in summer.
Fun Sails are offered at $65 per person spring/$85 summer. In addition, kids ages 10-18 can
enjoy a summer adventure of their own with a three-hour Sail to Cape Poge with an instructor
for $150 per person.
J 24
This 24-foot keelboat offers speed and performance to provide an ideal teaching platform for
students of all levels to learn to sail. Individualized instruction is available for up to five
students. Instruction and Fun Sail rates are the same as the Club 420. Guests can also book the J
24 for an Adventure Sail to Vineyard Haven (includes a one-way powerboat ride) for up to four
people. Rates are $550 spring/$850 summer for a two- to four-hour adventure.
Flotilla Parties
Scout and Stardust can be booked together for two-boat flotilla parties in Edgartown Harbor or
Cape Poge Bay. Rates are $800 spring/$1,200 summer for 3-hour parties of up to 12 guests.
Marina Dock Slips
Guests with their own boats can rent a slip at the Harbor View Hotel dock for a per-foot rental
fee. Rents range from $4.50 per foot in spring, fall and winter (30 feet minimum charge) to
$7.50 per foot for boats under 49 feet, then $8 to $10 per foot for vessels 50 to 70 feet or
larger during summer. Minimum two-night weekend stays and three-night holiday stays apply
in the summer season, as does a two-week maximum.
