slant the the williams photography journal slant the the williams photography journal A slant is defined as a specific way of looking at a subject. Each time the photographer raises his camera, he records his unique interpretation of what he sees. It is more than just a reflection of the truth. With each calculated decision, the photographer frames his vision and captures an image representative of his own artistic outlook. The beauty lies within this connection between the photographer and his subject. Photography, therefore, acts as a mirror of an individual’s intellectual and aesthetic curiosity. The Slant aims to acquaint the Williams College and Williamstown communities with the unique perspectives of its photographers. We wish to encourage an open discourse regarding not only the way photographers view their subject, but also the way the public views photography. With this in mind, we hope that you, the viewer, will take a moment to pause and explore the meaning of each photograph featured in this journal. The Slant and its activities would not be possible without the generous support of Arts at Williams, Williams College Council, and Excelsior Printing. 1 KAISON TANABE ’13 COVER: TYLER HOLDEN ’13 s the lant the williams photography journal fall 2012, volume 1, issue 1 EDITOR-IN-CHIEF robert yang ’15 EXECUTIVE EDITOR alyssa amos ’15 BUSINESS MANGER corbin chu ’15 DESIGN TEAM ivana nikolau ’14 gabriel contreras-ciserno ’15 andrea estrada ’16 isabel hanson ’16 SUPERVISOR suzanne silitch EMMA TEAL LAUKITIS ’13 2 3 AUSTIN NGUYEN ’14 AUSTIN NGUYEN ’14 4 5 REBECCA BELL ’15 EMMA TEAL LAUKITIS ’13 6 7 ANDREA ESTRADA ’16 CHRISTOPHER SEITZ ’15 8 9 STEPHANIE OWYANG ’13 11 CHRISTOPHER CHANDLER ’14 KAISON TANABE ’13 12 13 JOSEPH L.
