Stabilisers Retractable-fin stabilisers The Neptune II retractable-fin stabiliser provides o ptimal vessel performance at low ownership costs. Retractable stabilisers Neptune II retractable-fin stabilisers Retractable fin stabiliser systems play an important role in improving the all-important on board experience for passengers and crew. They are supplied in pairs, but can be used singly if required. When not in use they retract into recesses in the hull, flush with the vessel’s side. Vessel speed and the angle of the fins in the water determines the degree of lift generated and the subsequent level of roll reduction. The control system senses ship speed and the degree of ship movement and alters the fin angle to provide the necessary lift to return the vessel to an even keel. Compared to an unstabilised vessel, these systems provide 80-90% roll reduction. The one-piece fin is built of fabricated materials, with a m odified NACA (North American Committee on Aeronautics) section to maximise lift properties and minimise drag, with a similar effect as flapped fins. Features include an innovative tilt ram attribute, which facilitates cylinder and seal maintenance w ithout dry-docking, simplified crux assembly, improved hydraulic and lubrication systems, lower weight and a new fin extension-locking m echanism for improved safety. Neptune II offers optimal vessel p erformance with low ownership costs. Aquarius can boast terrific stabiliser performance, thanks to its one-piece, high-lift fin. Aquarius retractable-fin stabilisers Typical applications: The Aquarius folding-fin stabiliser range gives high-performance roll damping, with a compact, lightweight design and state-of-the-art controls. The fin operating m echanism is especially configured to meet the requirements of smaller vessels, with minimum size, weight and number of parts. The stabiliser comes s upplied complete with a fin-box and any necessary local stiffening, ready for the shipyard to weld into place. • Large motor yachts • Small cruise ships • Passenger ferries • Small naval and coast guard vessels Technical data, Aquarius retractable-fin stabilisers Key product benefits • Enhanced stabiliser performance thanks to the one-piece high-lift fin • Low installation costs for hydraulic, mechanical and control equipment • Ease of integration with ship’s alarm and monitoring s ystems • Small hull aperture • Linear actuators for fin tilt and extension • Integral lubrication system • Fin-box can be shipyard supplied • Load sensing hydraulics • Latest generation controls Aquarius Fin area Total weight model(m )(tonnes) 2 25 50 100 1.06 1.41 1.76 2.05 1.82 2.42 3.03 3.51 4.21 4.73 5.26 5.78 9.7 10.0 10,3 10.8 19.3 19.8 20.3 20.8 35.5 37.0 39.0 40.2 All data subject to change without prior notice. 19 Stabilisers Stabilisation-at-rest When the fins are fully retracted, only a small part of the trailing edge remains outside the finbox (Aquarius variant shown). Stabilisation-at-rest Key productbenefits The stabilisation-at-rest system uses the proven and reliable Aquarius and Neptune ranges of retractable stabilisers. The system is ideal for medium to large yachts and is the world’s first to be made available with the benefits of retractable fins. • Rolls-Royce retractable stabilisers will deliver the r equired roll reduction with only a single pair of fins • Fewer components and the sub-systems means r eliability, and availability, with less maintenance • Units normally fit into the main machinery space, with simple access for r outine maintenance • Electro-hydraulic actuation for low noise The fins can be folded away when not required to improve safety, maintain manoeuvrability in confined spaces or when travelling at high speed. With the fin retracted drag is negligible, and compared to the industry standard there is also less fin drag in the working condition. “Active” fin control and advanced hydrodynamic design give outstanding roll reduction at anchor and the usual excellent performance whilst underway. The modular type of stabilisers meet military standards for noise, shock and vibration levels. Gemini non-retractable stabilisers Modular stabilisers For applications where retraction of the fins is not required, the Gemini range is available for smaller vessels where high performance and low cost are important factors. The Gemini range of non-retractable stabilisers are supplied with a plain, high p erformance fabricated fin. Gemini stabilisers provide high performance roll damping with a compact, lightweight design and modern controls, as well as proving highly dependable with low maintenance costs. The power unit is compact, incorpo rating pumps, motor, proportional control valves and cooler, and the range can be supplied with or without a hull plate to a llow a balance of cost against ease of installation. The modular stabiliser range incorporates superior hydrodynamic features, and is designed to satisfy standards for noise, shock and vibration where these are required to meet customer military/naval specifications. A keyless taper socket fin attachment allows the hydrodynamicprofile of the fin blade to remain u nbroken, reducing the potential for cavitation. If required, air emission from the l eading edge of the fin can also be utilised to minimise noise i nduced by cavitation. The hull-closing plate is an integral part of the fin unit. I nstallation is easy, as the unit is shaped to fit the hull l ines exactly, so expensive seating s tructures and finishing work can be avoided.
