Back, Back... ...to Culver Days Class of 1968 Post Reunion 2013 45the Reunion Memories It was a glorious weekend. The weather was nice, the campus was beautiful, and almost 30 of us gathered to get reacquainted and have some fun together. Those who were there know what I mean. Those who were not missed out on some good conversations and great times. younger and it is good to say hello now because one day our friends will be fewer in number. Keep those Culver ties and contacts. Remember the “old days” and make a pledge to gather once more. We saw and heard some new things over the weekend. The new rowing center designed by our very own John Chipman and financed in part by Nix Lauridsen is a fantastic world class facility. People from all classes commented on how impressive the building is. We had an opportunity to learn about the curriculum and programs for the Ron Rubin School for the Entrepreneur, and got briefings from some of the projects from current and past students. One of the activities described involved a group of students presenting their solutions to a marketing problem at Red Gold Inc. whose CEO is Brian Reichart. No other secondary school anywhere has such a program. In many forums we heard of the high standards in all areas at Culver and the many reasons we have to be proud. At our class meeting on Saturday, we heard from John Buxton, Head of Schools about the contributions from our class and how we should all take pride in how we have supported and improved Culver in the years since our graduation. The Academies has asked the Class to take on two challenging goals: to raise $100,000 and to have 35% of our classmates participate in supporting our 45th Reunion Gift. If we can work together once again, we are sure that ‘68 can reach both of these goals! We want to say “thank you” to the 31 classmates who have committed $65,854.70 towards our 45th Reunion Gift (list next page)! To those who haven’t given yet, this is our last request for your support before the close of the fiscal year on June 30, 2013. We have a ways to go, but with your help – we can get there! Every gift is important and appreciated. You can make a secure online gift by logging onto www.culver.org/makeagift or returning a check in the business reply envelope contained in this newsletter. John also described how Culver Fund donations support the strategic priorities of the school: student financial aid, faculty salaries and programs such as Fine Arts and athletics. Indeed, alumni support makes up a critical part of the operating budget of Culver such that without it Culver could not provide the standard of excellence it does. John remarked that the “One Culver” idea is the integration of the summer and winter programs’ mission stressing leadership and character development for young people no matter which program(s) they attend. So now the 45th reunion is in the past and the is next. For all of you who said you could not attend this time, but would come to the 50th, mark your calendars now and look for communications from us on specific dates and events. In the meantime, reach out to your friends from Culver. Miles White is the chairman of The Culver Educational Foundation Board of Trustees and the presentation was made during the weekend of the trustees meeting. Hartman has served as a history teacher, assistant counselor, the director of admissions, executive secretary of the academies, director of the audio visual aids department, and coach of the Company A football team. He is the holder of the MacMillan Family Chair of American Heritage; and served as the executive secretary of the centennial commission in 1994, special assistant to the president of Culver, and as Culver’s official historian. Erin Thomas scored a goal off a pass from Kelsi Carr with 3:34 left to break an 8-8 tie. The Eagles led at halftime, 5-3, and led 7-4 after a Morgan Osborn goal. But Carmel slowly climbed back and tied the game with under five minutes remaining. The Eagles were able to win the draw and run the clock down to 39 seconds before turning the ball over, but goalie Clair Fay gathered up the Carmel attempt and ran out the clock to preserve the win. Olivia Rabbitt led CGA with three goals. Annie Morsches and Thomas each added two goals. Morsches also had two assists. Fay made 10 saves. Rabbitt and Morsches were two of the five Indiana high school girls recognized as All-Americans by US Lacrosse.
