Lighting the Advent Wreath
The Meaning of the Advent Wreath Ceremony
The wreath, as a circle, expresses God’s eternity. The evergreen symbolizes God’s
unchangeableness. The lights remind us that we are to be the light of the world, just as Jesus
was the light. Advent comes from the Latin word 'adventus' meaning 'Coming.' Advent
begins the church year starting four Sundays before Christmas. The season of Advent has
been set aside as a time of preparation since the 6th century. Advent is a time for preparing
for Christ's second coming, even as we remember and celebrate his first coming at
Christmas.
The Boar’s Head Festival
On January 7th, 2017 7:00p.m.We will present a Boar’s Head Festival for our community. The
Boar’s Head Festival is a colorful ceremony of Christmastide and Epiphany that has been
celebrated since the Middle Ages in England, as early as 1340 at Queen’s College in Oxford.
The entertainment offered as part of the festivities includes a Boar’s Head Procession. The
presentation of the Boar’s Head signifies the triumph of the Christ Child over sin.
The main story is an elaborate restaging of the Nativity Story with a Madrigal Singers and soloists.
Special guest include the King and Queen and the Lord of Misrule.
Please plan to attend and bring your family, friends and neighbors to experience the story of the
Christ Child coming into our world. This is a way to share the Gospel of Christ through a fun
evening of mirth and merriment. This is also an opportunity to help the general fund of Christ
The King through a love offering that will be collected.
