We will then bring them to the church for you to pick up at 8:00pm Lighting the Advent Wreath The Meaning of the Advent Wreath Ceremony The wreath, as a circle, expresses God’s eternity. The evergreen symbolizes God’s unchangeableness. The lights remind us that we are to be the light of the world, just as Jesus was the light. Advent comes from the Latin word 'adventus' meaning 'Coming.' Advent begins the church year starting four Sundays before Christmas. The season of Advent has been set aside as a time of preparation since the 6th century. Advent is a time for preparing for Christ's second coming, even as we remember and celebrate his first coming at Christmas. The Boar’s Head Festival On January 7th, 2017 7:00p.m.We will present a Boar’s Head Festival for our community. The Boar’s Head Festival is a colorful ceremony of Christmastide and Epiphany that has been celebrated since the Middle Ages in England, as early as 1340 at Queen’s College in Oxford. The entertainment offered as part of the festivities includes a Boar’s Head Procession. The presentation of the Boar’s Head signifies the triumph of the Christ Child over sin. The main story is an elaborate restaging of the Nativity Story with a Madrigal Singers and soloists. Special guest include the King and Queen and the Lord of Misrule. Please plan to attend and bring your family, friends and neighbors to experience the story of the Christ Child coming into our world. This is a way to share the Gospel of Christ through a fun evening of mirth and merriment. This is also an opportunity to help the general fund of Christ The King through a love offering that will be collected. IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ January 15th after the service we will have a pot luck lunch and our Annual meeting. At our Annual meeting we will talk about the state of the church. The hopes and dreams for the coming year. We will elect two new members of the vestry for a three year term and one new member for a one year term. Two members of our vestry will finish their service on the vestry, Josh Beck and Mike green, Wade Griggs is moving so the remainder of his term (one Year) will also be filled. The vestry and I would like to ask you to pray, about being a nominee to serve on vestry Canons of the Diocese of Central Florida state: A person shall be eligible to serve as a Warden or member of the Vestry who is entitled to vote on matters coming before the Parish or Mission, must be at least 18 years of age, and a confirmed communicant in good standing. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve the Lord in his church. Please speak with Mother Carolyn if you feel called to serve on the vestry. Our Diocesan Convention will be held in Winter park, Fl. On January 27th and 28th we need at least one more delegate. Please prayerfully consider being a delegate. The Canons of the Diocese of Central Florida state : Section 6. Lay delegates shall be chosen by the Vestry or Church Committee of each Congregation, or if there be no Vestry or Church Committee, or if the Vestry or Church Committee fail to act, then by the Congregation of the Parish or organized Mission, duly convened. Only confirmed communicants who are at least 18 years of age and entitled to vote as set forth in Canon XVII, Section 3, shall serve as lay delegates for the Parish or Mission. . Because this is new to Christ The King and to most of you, it is imperative that you attend all rehearsals!!!!!
