The Babylon Village Public
Schools will begin the new school
year on Wednesday, September
4, with twenty-one new teachers,
nineteen of whom are replacements , with one extra science teacher and one school psychologist.
There will be no change in the
hour s in the Memoria l Grade and
Babylon Elementary Schools
from last year - 8:45 A.M . to
2:50 P.M., with one hour for
lunch.
To enter kindergarten , children must be 5 years of age on
or before December 1.
The lunch periods are as follows: first grade, 11:15 to 12:15,
second and third grades, 11:40
to 12:40, 4th grade, 11:10 to
12:10, 5th grade, 12:10 to 1:10,
and 6th grade, 12:40 to 1:40.
Lunch will be served beginning
with the first day of school at
30 cents.
Children in grades K-3 inclusive must live 3/4 of a mile
away from school to have bus
transportation. ' Children in
grades 4-6 inclusive must live
at least one mile from school
to obtain bus transportation. No
bus transportation is provided
for pupils in grades 7-12 inclusive.
On Tuesday, September 3, all
7th grade students are to repor t at one o'clock to receive
schedule cards and participate in
a brief orientation program.
These 7th grade students are
to enter the school by door on
Carll Avenue, opposite the handball court.
On Wednesday, September 4,
all pupils grades 7 through 12,
are to report between 7:30 and
7:40 A.M. All 8th and 9th grade
pupils are to enter door on
Carll Avenue opposite the tennis
court. 10th grade pupils will
enter the main Gym entrance,
llth grade pupils will enter the
rear door of Corrective Gym
and 12th grade pupils will enter the door by Senior High
Guidance.
This school district will have
2533 students enrolled on opening day.
All classes will be on fulltime sessions . A breakdown of
the enrollment shows 213 in kindergarten, 1125 in grades
1 through 6, and 1195 in grades
7 through 12.

'Barbershop' Fills Argyle
For the sixth consecutive year,
Babylon Village will sponsor a
concert by the Huntington-North
Shore Chapter of the Society for
the Preser vation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet
Singing in America, Inc. The
group will appear on Wednesday
evening, August 28, 1968, at the
Argyle Park band shell, West
Main Street, Babylon.
The concert will feature "The

Soundsmen ".
chorus of the chapter , under the
direction of Bob Edwards of
Syosset , which recently captured second place in the society 's sectional contest. They
will give their rendition of such
old-time classics as "Good Old
Days ", "Broadway Rose , and
"Dixie ".
Three quartets from the chapter, "The Sea Chords ", "Rumble Seat Four ", and "The Semaphores", will also entertain, and
a community sing, always a favorite of the audience, will be
featured.
This is another in a series
of cultural and musical efforts
by local talent arranged by the
Babylon Village Trustees, designed to make your summer
more pleasurable.
Curtain time is 9 P.M., and
admission is free. In case of
rain, the concert will take place
on the following Wednesday ..September 4th.
