Assignment: 6.2.3 # 56 - 61, 64 - 66
Solving Systems of This method is a way to change two equations with
Equations
two variables into one equation with one variable.
Example :
The Substitution
Method
We will use substitution to
rewrite the two equations
as one. In other words,
replace x with (-3y + 1).
This equation can then be
solved to find y.
To find the point of intersection,
substitute to find the other
value.
Substitute y = 1 into x = -3y + 1
and write the answer for
x & y as an ordered pair.
To check the solution,
substitute the x & y solutions
Chapter 6 Page 1
To check the solution,
substitute the x & y solutions
into the other original equation
to verify it makes the equation
true.
