Barb Boettcher (313) 292-0609, Troop 816 Committee Member “A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.” St. Alfred Parish • Taylor, MI Page 6 Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time • October 18, 2015 From the Desk of Fr. Charles Desde el Escritorio del Padre Carlos Today, I want to spend a little time talking about a few new initiatives here at St. Alfred. First is our new 52 week Ace of Spades raffle. This raffle comes as a replacement for our annual Spring Big Raffle, the one with the $100 ticket. After an extensive review by the fundraising committee, the recommendation was to drop the other raffle due to declining sales and try a new raffle instead. I've been announcing it the past few weeks, but now that it has started, the weekend announcements at Mass will end and word of mouth will need to take over. I am counting on all of you to help make this fundraiser a success, so let me give you the basics on the way the raffle is run, so you can explain to your neighbors, friends, family and coworkers. Each week we will sell tickets, after Mass, in the office and from businesses and parishioners who volunteer to help sell. The price of a ticket is $1, all tickets sold since the last drawing thru the current Thursday drawing are placed in a drum and one is selected. The owner of that ticket, if present at the drawing, then selects one of the envelopes in the shadow box on the wall. At the start of the raffle, 52 cards will be sealed in separate envelopes, mixed up and secured to the board in the shadow box. The winning card is the Ace of Spades, if it is selected the person wins the jackpot, if not, they get the consolation prize which starts at $50 and moves up to $200 based on the size of the jackpot. I hope this explains it well and you are all excited and ready, willing and able to help promote this to all of your acquaintances. Now that we have finished the shrine for Our Lady, our next big project is the moving to the paver stones from over by the former play ground to in front of the church. We are looking for volunteers to help remove them and replace them, I ask any of you who are interested in helping to contact the office. We will be trying to find a weekend when the most people are available. Finally, there have been many complaints to me lately about the noise level in the church before and after Mass. We need to remember that we are in a sacred place and we need to respect it. Please keep conversations to a minimum and use a whisper if you need to speak. Your servant in Christ, Fr. Preciosa’s Pointers Hi everybody.... Daddy and I were talking about words this week and how they can hurt or help. I think sometimes we forget that words make others feel better or feel worse. Sometimes what we try to say is ok, but the words we use make it bad. I know I don't ever want to hurt someone's feelings, but sometimes when I bark or growl at people playfully, they think I'm mad and it makes them sad. I guess I know how that feels, sometimes Laly yells at me, daddy never yells at me, yelling hurts people's feelings . On the other hand, kind words make others feel really good, it's almost as good as having your tummy rubbed . When I see daddy is down, I go and bark at him to make him feel better and then he picks me up and rubs my tummy, so everybody wins. So, let us all think about how we say things and try and use happy words, not mean words, and then everyone will be happier not sad. Well, keep your paws dry and tummy full. Love Precious.
