Bonners Church of England Primary School
“Inspire and Aspire!”
30th September 2016
Message from Mrs Radford
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted that all our new children have settled so well and quickly into the routines and community of our school. I had
the privilege of spending time in the EYFS (reception) class this week so I could get to know the children and observe how they
are becoming increasingly independent and forming new friendship. It was great to see the children really flourishing.
For those new to our school, and as a reminder to us all, I am including our school vision.
“Embracing Christian values, we strive to develop a dynamic and inspiring culture of learning
working in partnership with all partnerships with all members of our community, we aspire to be the
best we can be now and in the future.”
You may have noticed ‘Floreat Bonners’ embroidered on our uniform jumpers, this is our school motto and this means ‘May
Bonners Flourish.’ This motto is taken from our school deed when our school was founded in the 17 th century, by the Rev
Bonner. We are very proud of our history and the success and sustainability of our thriving village school and appreciate the
strong support from our community.
Friends of Bonners
This week we held our first FOBs’ Friends of Bonners School meeting of the year at which we discussed a new range of events
for the coming year alongside our familiar and successful opportunities for us to support our school.
One exciting new venture is to have 2 class representatives to liaise with committee and support communication and help with
events. You will have received an online questionnaire about FOBs and we would be grateful if you could fill this in online. We
are eager to recruit new members and you are invited to our AGM which will be advertised soon. During this we will be
reviewing our year and creating our new committee. I was delighted to welcome a number of new families to our first
committee meeting, but we would love to have a larger team. Everyone is welcome and the more volunteers we have the
easier it is to share the support for the school.
Harvest Festival & Class Activities
We will be holding our Harvest Thanksgiving service next week and we do hope you can join us at our church on Friday 7 th
October at 2.00 p.m. We would appreciate volunteers to help us walk up to the church at 1.45 p.m. We will be dismissing the
children from the church; those who are not collected at the end of the service will be escorted back to school.
As usual we are collecting harvest gifts for Uckfield Food Bank and we are eager to receive dried and tinned goods that can be
shared with those in need, within the local community. Please bring these in on the day.
We can all experience difficulties in our lives, and if at any time you feel you would benefit from Food Bank support please
speak to us in the strictest confidence. In the first instance please speak to Mrs Birkbeck, or if there are other concerns, please
contact Mrs Kaufman of myself. We are always able to help find solutions.
This term our Christian value has been respect and it has helped our children to appreciate how they can respect themselves,
one another and all members of our school community and beyond. We have been able to see our children living out this value
on a daily basis. Our values programme delivered through class lessons and assemblies is based on the life and work of Jesus
Christ.
This week Year 6 are making stop motion animation movies as part of their learning journey. We eagerly await the premiere of
the films. Super heroes are working very hard in Year 1 and 2 as they use Super Sentence City to help them learn how to write
interesting sentences. Our new Wrens have been very busy learning letter formation and the phonic sounds sat pin. Do visit the
area on the learning platform to play some phonic games. Year 5 have been learning about space art. I am delighted years 3
and 4 have the opportunity to swim thanks to parents and carers for helping with supervision.
Safeguarding is always of paramount importance to us. If you have any safeguarding
issues you would like to discuss, please come and see us.
Parent Consultation Evenings
These sessions will give you the opportunity to view children’s work and discuss their progress and
are a vital tool in our communication with parents. We will be using our Parent Mail Parents
Evening system to book appointments.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
Thank you so much for your support for our Macmillan coffee afternoon. You generosity both in
donating cakes and attending the event are very much appreciated. I know this cause is very close to
many of us and if we can begin to contribute to those who are looking for solution to cancer and to
provide much needed help and care for our colleagues, friends and families it is a step in the right
direction. My thanks to Mrs Birkbeck, for her enthusiasm and commitment to organising this event
Collective Worship
As you may know, the children attend Collective Worship each day which is led by staff, our Rector, the pupils and,
on occasion, visitors. These whole school gatherings give the pupils and staff time for prayer, stillness and reflection, as well as a chance to explore inner thoughts and feelings, in accordance with Church of England teaching.
The pupils are provided with opportunities to share what is important to them, in an atmosphere conducive to a
sense of peace, tranquillity and one of mutual respect. Key messages are delivered based on Christian values and
these values are a focus for two weeks. This week’s focus has been thanking God for this year’s harvest. Everyone
is welcome to our Harvest Festival on Friday 7th October. Next week we will be exploring “The stories Jesus told.”
