Business School Research Seminar Topic: Measuring complexity in business networks Presenter: Sharon Purchase & Doina Olaru, UWA Business School Abstract: This seminar will explore complexity measures and there association to business network performance and structures. This exploratory research considers complexity benefits to business networks focusing on interdependence. The data was generated from an existing agent based model (ABM). The ABM simulates exchanges processes within an innovation network. We generated 100 scenarios across 450 network systems. After calculating Shannon’s Entropy, multiple regression and neural networks were used to explore associations with network structure and exchange processes. Results indicate the complexity is weakly associated with network performance. Our contribution explores how complexity can be measured within business networks.
