Vocabulary Activities
Directions: You must do one activity for each vocabulary assignment. You can only do each one TWICE.
1. Create a crossword puzzle. Your CLUES must be the definitions AND a sentence using the word correctly. Be sure
to leave the actual WORD itself BLANK so you don’t give it away!
EX: Down: 1.) def (to recant solemnly, renounce or repudiate); sent “I have been _____ and set free
from the tribe of werewolves.”
2. Word Search. Your CLUES must be the definitions AND a sentence using the word correctly. Be sure to leave the
actual WORD itself BLANK so you don’t give it away!
EX: Def (eating or drinking in moderation); sent “I have been quite _____about my diet coke intake since
school started.”
3. Word Scramble. Your CLUES must be the definitions AND a sentence using the word correctly.
EX: (lumlebtean) Def (Belonging to the period before war, especially the Civil War) Sent “The deep south
_____society celebrated the young debutante with balls and parties.”
4. Synonyms and Antonyms. You must write the word and definition 3 times, then find BOTH a synonym AND an
antonym.
EX: Belie, Belie, Belie To give a false representation or misrepresentation To give a false
representation or misrepresentation To give a false representation or misrepresentation
Synonym: contradict
Antonym: confirm
5. Sentence Scramble. You must write the word and definition 3 times. Write a scrambled up sentence with the
words out of order.
EX: chicanery, chicanery, chicanery Deception by trickery Deception by trickery Deception by trickery.

6. Write a short 3 paragraph story using all your vocabulary words, be sure to UNDERLINE them as you use them.
7. Acronyms: create acronyms for your words that are relevant to the definition.

8. Create flashcards. You must have the word and a picture on one side, the definition on the other side.
