Parenting Teens Who Are Acting Out Workshop Outline

Parenting Teens Who Are Acting Out
Workshop Outline
Goal:
The goal of the workshop is to bring parents to a happier place in their lives and teach them
what they can do toward their teen’s best development.
Part 1:
The first part of the workshop focuses on self-care, learning how to relax and deal in a calm
manner with teenagers. (Interactive calming exercise (breathing technique))
Part 2:
We discuss the issues our teenagers are having and how that leaves the parents feeling. We
discuss what parents have tried and what has failed. Then we discuss why their parenting
has been ineffective. (Writing exercise)
Part 3:
Ideas are introduced on a new more effective approach to parenting with step-by-step
instructions on how to address various situations. This parenting approach is based on the
teachings of Robert and Jean Bayard PhD. from their book entitled “How to deal with your
Acting-Up Teenager.” This is practical self-help for desperate parents who feel they have
nowhere to turn and no instruction manual.
Part 4:
Jane Berthiaume shares her personal story and how she used these techniques with her
youngest son to get through some serious struggles.
We end this workshop with tea and networking for parents to talk and share their stories.
