THE LION IN WINTER | January 20, 21 & 22
Director: DAVID WHICKER
Set in the English court of King Henry II, Christmas 1183
Henry II
- The king of England, Henry is the husband of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the father
of Richard, Geoffrey, and John. He also has taken Alais Capet as his mistress. In
his fifties, Henry is nearing the years when most men of that age died; however,
he still has remarkable vigor and wit, as well as physical prowess. His clear
favorite for his successor is his son, John, but his main desire is to keep his
kingdom together after his death.
Alais Capet
- The sister of Philip Capet, Alais is of the royal blood of France and would thus,
through a contracted marriage with Richard, ally the two strong countries of
France and England. She was raised as a child by Eleanor, and is the mistress of
Henry. She is no less a pawn in the machinations of Henry and Eleanor than are
their sons.
John
- The youngest of the three sons of Henry and Eleanor, John is described as pimply
and an immature boy. He is, however, his father's choice for the crown, and he
uses this knowledge in taunting his two brothers.
Geoffrey
- The middle son of Henry and Eleanor, Geoffrey has no one fighting for his right to
any throne, and he usually accepts his fate, but his does rankle him that he
usually is not considered—in any matters of the heart or family. He is described as
the most cerebral of the three boys.
Richard
- The oldest of the three sons of Henry and Eleanor, Richard in later life becomes
known as Richard the Lion Heart. He is his mother's choice for the next king, and
is probably the best warrior of the three sons.
Eleanor of Aquitaine
- The wife of Henry II and mother of Richard, Geoffrey, and John, Eleanor is a
strong and powerful woman in her own right. She is still beautiful and still in many
ways in love with her husband, although he keeps her in prison most of the time.
She is a danger to Henry because of her strength and intelligence; and she
champions the fight for Richard to be the next king.
Philip Capet
- The king of France, Philip is also the brother of Alais. He is young, but has already
become a strong monarch, although no match for Henry. His desire is to marry
Alais to Richard and have Richard crowned king, thus cementing a relationship
between the two countries.
THE GLASS MENAGERIE | February 17, 18 & 19
Director: RHONDA TINCH-MIZE
Set in the mind of Tom, looking back to the spring of 1937, an apartment in St. Louis
Amanda Wingfield
- The mother whose husband deserted her years ago leaving her with a son and
daughter to raise. She lives partially in the world of her youth and her gentlemen
callers in order to escape the brutalities of today's world.
Tom Wingfield
- Her son who is employed in a shoe warehouse in order to support the family. He
is a poet by nature and feels that his environment is destroying his creative
abilities.
Laura Wingfield
- The daughter who is slightly crippled. She has retreated from this world and lives
in a world of old phonograph records and little glass animals.
Jim O'Connor
- The "emissary" from the world of reality. He is the average or ordinary young man
who brings a touch of the common world into the Wingfield world of dreams.
OTHELLO | March 10, 11 & 12 | Director: RICK VALE
Set in Venice, and Cyprus when the Turks invade, early modern (c. 1500-1750)

and shows courage, love, and loyalty in following her husband into danger. She

becoming distant and making wild accusations against her.
Brabantio
- A Venetian Senator, Desdemona's father. He is angry at his daughter's choice of
husband but can do nothing once the marriage has taken place, and the
Venetian Senate has accepted it. He warns Othello that Desdemona is a clever
deceiver.
Roderigo
- A Venetian nobleman in love with Desdemona. He has more money than sense
and pays Iago to court Desdemona on his behalf. Iago, playing on Roderigo's
hopes and gullibility, continues to help himself to Roderigo's money, and
Roderigo never gets his heart's desire.
Cassio
- Othello's lieutenant in the Venetian defense forces. Cassio accompanied Othello
as his friend when he was courting Desdemona. He is popular, he speaks well,
and he is lively and trusting.

the handkerchief that Cassio gives her; then she throws it back at him, believing
it is the token of his new love.

anybody else and is suspicious of his actions and motives.

Othello to lead the forces defending Venice against the Turkish attack on
Cyprus; he also urges Brabantio to accept his daughter's marriage.

him in the drunken brawl.
