Spring Term Class News
Reception—Traditional Tales
Following our Entry Point Day we
have listened to, acted out and sung
songs from ‘Traditional Tales.’ We
designed, made and iced Gingerbread
Men that tasted delicious! We have
been working hard to improve our
letter formation and writing sentences
about the stories we have listened to.
We measured the Giant’s footprints
and counted magic beans.
During our enthralling visit to Cardiff
Castle, as part of our Exit Point, we
listened to a Storyteller and had a tour
of the castle.
Year 1—We are Storytellers
Our topic has been amazing. We
especially loved our Entry Point a visit
from author/illustrator Emma Levey
and our Exit Point when we went to
Techniquest. We have immersed
ourselves in stories this term and have
read many of the Oliver Jeffers
stories. We have been extremely
creative designing and making habitat
boxes and creating pictures after
learning about Fauvism. We have
learnt about our Community and
‘People Who Help Us’ . We have
helped Discovery Dog solve his
problem.
Year 2—We are Researchers
Our topic has been superb. We had a
fantastic Entry Point Day when we
researched different countries. We
had great fun researching the exhibits
at Cardiff Museum. We have also
researched the life of Florence
Nightingale, made clay dragons,
completed observational drawings of
kiwis, worked hard to make and sell
products for Enterprise Troopers and
have worked hard throughout the
term.
World Book Day
Thank you for the excellent
variety of storybook characters and
books brought into School to
share. The children were able to
spend their £1 World Book Day token
in our ‘Pop-up’ book shop.

Year 3 – Health and Fitness
We have learnt about how our bodies
work and how to keep them fit and
healthy. As an Entry Point, we held our
own Mini Olympics, which was great fun.
For three weeks we walked briskly to
Hebron Hall and back. We all developed
our Swimming skills. We have
investigated the effects of acids and
sugars on our teeth and how toothpaste
can protect them – what happened was
amazing! We received a visit from the
‘Design to Smile’ team. We investigated
how easily germs can spread, during our
hand washing workshop.
Year 4 - The Second World War
It has been a thought-provoking term for
Year 4, exploring what life was like
during World War II. We were
evacuated to the 1940s Museum in
Swansea and helped each other learn by
making presentations to the class. We
had a triumphant end to the Topic, with
an amazing V.E. Day Celebration which
we planned independently. In our Sound
and Light topic, we took part in scientific
workshops, learning about how our ears
and eyes work.
Year 5 – Myths and Legends
Our successful topic in Year 5 began
with a fantastic Entry Point Day
researching Myths and Legends from all
over the World. Working collaboratively
and using extensive ICT skills, we have
produced a range of high quality work,
building and programming our own
robotic mythical creatures, constructing
and animating our mythical stories and
creating green-screen films. To celebrate
our Myths and Legends topic, we were
proud to showcase our hard work in our
entertaining Year 5 Assembly.
Year 6—Our Place in Space
Year 6 have had a busy and exciting
term which began with a trip to the
Planetarium. We have studied a range of
writing genres but we particularly
relished the Year 6 challenge of writing a
personification poem, ‘My Wales’, for the
Eisteddfod competition. During
‘Enterprise Week’, we strived with our
teams to plan ventures, in order to gain
the most profit. Our success was largely
down to the participation of the whole
School. Thank you everyone! We had an
amazing time on our residential trip to
Manor Adventure where wonderful
memories have been made.
