To welcome new students to SWOSU and help them feel “at home” To assist in planning aspects of new student orientation To develop a rapport with new students and their families, assisting them with both expressed and unexpressed concerns To work with faculty, staff, student leaders, and administrators to promote SWOSU services and departments Characteristics: An Orientation Leader should possess the following characteristics: • Exhibit desire to Play, Make Someone’s Day, Be There, and Choose Your Attitude • Exhibit leadership potential • Exhibit commitment to the mission of New Student Orientation • Possess the following personal qualities: maturity, responsibility, initiative, punctuality, selfconfidence, motivation, problem solving skills, organizational skills, enthusiasm, creativity and resourcefulness, positive attitude • Exhibit good interpersonal and group presentation skills • Exhibit the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of team players Qualifications: • An Orientation Leader must understand and support the goals of the Orientation Program. • An Orientation Leader must have completed at least 12 credit hours at SWOSU and must be in good standing with the university (GPA 2.0).Students who apply before completing 12 hours may be hired on a conditional basis. No student may hold an Orientation Leader position while on academic or disciplinary probation. • Each applicant must return two completed reference forms for previous employers, club sponsors, coaches or teachers • Each applicant must complete an application, resume and interview • Each applicant must be a full-time student (enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester). Please read the following clauses carefully. Understand that, should you be selected as an Advisory Board member, you will have been chosen from a talented pool of applicants and that the SWOSU Orientation Leader Program is counting on you to show a great deal of SWOSU spirit and commitment to the OL program, new students and their families. I do hereby agree to: 1. Uphold the reputation and mission of the Orientation Leader Program. 2. Participate in the orientation programs including, but not limited to: • Enroll in Student Leadership Education Course 3012/3000 during the spring semester • Attend a spring leadership retreat, January 10 & 11, 2014 • Participate in six freshmen enrollment sessions held April - August • Attend Fall Training the week prior to the fall semester and activities for Dawg Days 2014 • Assist students on Move-In Day 2014 • Assist a SWOSU faculty/staff member in the 5 week Freshman Orientation course • Assist students on SWOSU Saturday 2013 and 2014 3.
