GOVERNOR SCOTT:
Good morning.
I hope
everybody's house was fine after all that wind.
Good morning.
Welcome to the January 24th,
6
Cabinet meeting.
7
like to recognize Lee and Mackenzie Poppel to lead
8
this morning's invocation.
9
To begin our meeting, I would
Please remain standing after the invocation

for the Pledge of Allegiance led by Ellie Jane

12
Following the Pledge, we have the signing of

ANTHEM WAS SUNG).
18
GOVERNOR SCOTT:
Before we begin with the
19
Agency agendas, I have one quick announcement.
20
This past Friday DEP Secretary Jon Steverson
21
submitted his resignation effective February 3rd.
22
I know our office has received questions on his
23
successor and the process for that appointment, and
24
I'm sure your offices have also.
25
Because the law requires us to publish agendas
C & N REPORTERS

1
seven days in advance, we did not have enough
2
notice to include the appointment on the agenda for
3
this meeting; and so we cannot make any decisions
4
today.
5
Jon Steverson's last day is February 3rd, and
6
our next scheduled meeting isn't until February
7
7th.
8
like to schedule a meeting by phone next week to
9
vote on the appointment of the Interim Secretary
10
and discuss the process for the appointment of a
11
new Secretary as outlined in our Cabinet Governance
12
Guidelines.
To prevent a vacancy in the position, I would
13
Just like we have done with previous
14
appointments that require me to appoint and the
15
Cabinet to confirm, I will announce my nomination
16
for Interim Secretary soon.
17
each of you have plenty of time to meet with them
18
prior to voting on the interim appointment.
19
staff will reach out to your staff today to find a
20
time that works for all of us.
21
post it on the Cabinet website.
I wanted to make sure

I have two agenda items for you today.

I would like to note that two of the nominees

And J. M. "Buddy" Phillips served as FDLE's
7
director of mutual aid, providing valuable
8
assistance to the law enforcement community in
9
emergency situations.
Ironically enough, his son,
10
Mike Phillips, currently serves as the Assistant
11
Special Agent in Charge in that same role at FDLE

today.
13
I'd also like to point out that Buddy was
