Should parents be pre-chewing food for their young

The big debate
Where do you stand on today’s hottest topics?
Should parents be pre-chewing
food for their young children?
Alicia Silverstone caused a
stir when she disclosed that
she chewed food for her
11-month-old son, Bear Blu,
and then fed it into his mouth
— like a bird! “I really wasn’t
trying to tell anybody what to
do,” said Alicia, 35. But is this
sort of feeding proper?
t is our responsibility to ensure our
children learn the basic feeding and
eating skills necessary. Kiss-feeding,
as demonstrated by Alicia, is harmful
to a child’s appropriate developmental
stages of growth. It also emotionally
promotes dependence rather than
independence. An 11-month-old does
not need partially-digested food. This
child should be practicing the pincer
grasp, chewing and self-selecting
finger foods.

It’s all right in
other cultures
t’s her child and she’s right — in
many cultures it’s no big deal. It’s not
like the world is full of supermarkets
full of baby food with the appropriate
feeding number to follow. Women,
and especially moms, need to be more
supportive of each other and stop
trying to find a way to undermine each
other with criticism all the time.

There were two
versions of an ad
promoting Jennifer

Lifetime series, The

other used digital

and cover her
breasts. “Apparently

wacky thing here
is that instead of using it to enhance
curves, it’s been used to get rid of
them. This is weird, right? It’s weird!
And also unnecessarily prudish! We
saw more dramatic things on this
year’s Oscars telecast (Hello, Jennifer
Lopez’s nipple!), so I’m having a little
trouble seeing why this gorgeous,
curvy woman would need to be
edited down to a smaller size.

Some magazines
attract lots of
male readers. They most likely
would prefer the full-figured
Jennifer. Others attract women and
children, who, arguably, might be
more inclined to look at a picture of a
demure Jennifer. It’s all about what
is going to capture the consumer’s
attention. The marketers of The
Client List decided to play it safe and
give the public two options. Only one
was true, but this is Hollywood!

Lisa Lampanelli has ribbed Dayana
Mendoza on Celebrity Apprentice,
but when Lisa used a Hispanic slur
that we can’t even repeat to
describe the ex-Miss Venezuela on
Sirius XM radio, Dayana reacted. “As
a Latina, Lisa’s words aren’t just
offensive to me, but to millions of
other individuals. [She’s] degrading
an entire Hispanic culture,” she said.
