2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT // 1
ArtsWest produces artistic events so fiercely compelling that they require
conversation, improve the imagination, and promote cultural vibrancy as a
core value for the communities of Seattle.
2013-14: ARTSWEST’S “SPLASH OF COLOR” TO “OPENING DOORS”
An amazing, colorful season that brought us to today. We are opening ourselves up, moving out of our box, and
fulfilling our mission by opening conversation. We are opening doors, and so glad that you are joining us.

ArtsWest is proud of its mission. We are not afraid to plumb
the depths of the human experience in the stories we tell
on our stage and to provoke conversation in the art we
offer you in our Gallery. This past season, our five theatre
productions included the rolling world premiere of The
Taming, the multi-generational, heart-warming musical
Little Women, the provoking The Little Dog Laughed,
the stereotype-challenging THIRD, and the rocked-out
60’s classic HAIR, which generated the second-highest
revenue and patron attendance in the history of ArtsWest.
In the gallery, we welcomed the prestigious Deborah Faye
Lawrence, the beloved and celebrated Joey Veltkamp,
and offered the variety of traditional Chinese art, mixed
media and collage forms. Our education program brought us new after-school classes and welcomed an
energetic group of young performers to our Summer Musical Academy and our Conservatory production
of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Internally, ArtsWest’s 2013-14 Season was one of transition and growth. With the support of our fantastic
donors and contributors, we were able to remodel our Gallery and concessions, freshen and update our
brand with a new logo and website, upgraded our computer, phone and ticketing systems, set up our
shop with new tools, completed plumbing repairs, levelled the theatre floor, and upgraded our theatre
sound board. All of these critical infrastructure changes were the backdrop to a season that saw earned
revenue growth in single tickets, a 21% increase in contributed revenue, and an incredible Gala fundraiser
that raised over $160,000.
As we put a button on the 13-14 Season marked by its solidified administrative infrastructure, it is with
great anticipation that we look forward to welcoming our new Artistic Director, Mathew Wright. Under
Mathew’s care, our playhouse and gallery will find new levels of production excellence, collaboration,
professionalism and clear artistic direction. We look toward continuing our trend of increased earned
revenue as we welcome in new audiences, seek to engage them through our art and story-telling, and to
celebrate as new donors join our growing ArtsWest community.
Thank you for all of your support throughout 2013-14 as you have each come to find the ArtsWest that is
meaningful for you. We look forward to continuing on this journey with you, and are so grateful to have
you alongside us.
With Gratitude,
Laura Lee, Managing Director
