Infant Welfare Society of Chicago For more than 100 years, the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago has served the needs of women and children. We are happy to announce that, in January 2017, IWS began offering preventative healthcare to include another very important unit of the family - fathers! Infant Welfare puts the community into “community health” at a time when those in our neighborhoods need us. Our full-service community health center serves more than 13,000 patients annually with a variety of medical care, dental care, optometry, and behavioral health services in a single central location. This “one-stop-shop” ensures barrier-free access to services and provides a multi-service health care home to some of Chicago’s neediest children and their families. Today, our mission is to provide a continuum of integrated, quality, and preventive health care services to children and their families, enabling them to lead healthy and productive lives. 2017 Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens The Lake Forest Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago has chosen this east Lake Forest estate designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw for the location of its 17th biennial Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens. The Historic Preservation Award-winning English country estate is set on more than two acres featuring exquisite gardens with bluestone patios, fountains and a large fire pit. The house is a five bedroom and five-and-a-half bath masterpiece with a five-room coach house with kitchen. The house was built in 1922 as a summer residence for a prominent lawyer named J. O. Hinkley. The present owners purchased the house in 2007 and meticulously researched and replaced original materials including mercury glass windows sourced from England. As one of the most respected turn of the century architects, Shaw received a nod in the “The Great Gatsby” as the architect of character Daisy Buchanan’s Lake Forest home.
