you make the better.

Celebrating American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month, a time to remember the steps each of us can take to
reduce the risk of heart disease and recommit to better heart health. Throughout the
month, The Huddle will provide heart healthy tips and ways to get involved – starting with
National Wear Red Day and an exciting system-wide step challenge (see back of page)!
Ready, Set, Roll Out Your Red - National Wear Red Day is this Friday
Each year, the first Friday in February is designated by the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women as
National Wear Red Day. It’s a day when individuals and organizations show their support in the fight against heart disease,
the leading cause of death in women.
Join your co-workers on Friday, Feb. 1, by wearing red to help build awareness of cardiovascular disease, its impact on
women and those who love them, and how we can prevent heart disease and stroke. If you, your department, friends or
family join the Wear Red Day challenge, snap a photo of yourself in red attire and submit it to [email protected]. We’ll
feature a selection of photos in a future edition of The Huddle and on the SJH Facebook page.
Are You At Risk for Heart Disease?
Please take a moment out of your busy schedules to
evaluate your heart health by paying special attention to
risk factors such as: family history of heart disease,
knowing your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body
mass index, diabetes (especially among individuals with
weight issues), smoking, and the lack of exercise in your
life. Each of these risks factors and others are important
in understanding your heart health, It’s vital for everyone
to know their numbers as well as the signs and symptoms
of a heart attack and stroke. Identifying these risk factors
is not just for individuals in their 40s or older but for the 20
year olds as well. You owe it to yourself and the people in
your life who love you to know if you are at risk!
Center for Heart and Vascular
Wellness and Prevention Screenings
During February the Center for Heart and Vascular Wellness and Prevention will host an information table in the
Café, Pavilion lobby and PCC. Stop by and learn about our
screening programs. And, don’t forget to ask your manager
for your Go Red Sticker card! We will also illuminate the
pedestrian bridge on La Veta Ave., distribute Go Red Stickers on each patient’s breakfast tray and to our valet service
guests. All these acts show our commitment to the go red
movement. For more information on screenings available at
the Center for Heart and Vascular Wellness and Prevention, or to register for a screening, call 714-633-DOCS
(3627) or visit sjo.org/screenings.
