Win the race against broadleaf weeds
If your established pastures are looking worse for wear this season with broadleaf weeds
germinating left and right, it might be time to turn to a unique phenoxy herbicide.
New Zealand’s leading crop protection
supplier Nufarm, spent six years
developing a product to help farmers
become more flexible with seasonal
spray schedules.
Sprinter® 700DS is a new-generation
broad spectrum pasture herbicide
which combines the latest advances in
formulation technology with proven
performance in the field. Being a liquid,
it is easy to use, delivers excellent
translocation of the active ingredient
through plant tissue and gives good
weed control while also offering low
volatility and reasonable clover safety.
Most importantly, Sprinter 700DS makes
it easier to spray weed seedlings when
they are small, newly germinated and
actively growing. This allows you to apply
early on the shoulders of the traditional
phenoxy spray season.
The key lies in its formulation, a one-off
dual salt liquid 2,4-D amine, which is less
damaging on clover than older, 2,4-D
ester phenoxy herbicides. These types of
herbicides have historically been limited
to winter applications to minimise clover
damage, whereas Sprinter 700DS can be
used during warmer months without the
same risk of clover injury.

“That gives it an edge when it comes
to killing weeds,” Nufarm Technical
Specialist Cynthia Christie says.
“We always recommend spraying
phenoxy herbicides while weed plants
are still growing. Phenoxies mimic the
action of the weed’s own cell division and
growth hormones, effectively disrupting
these processes and killing the weed.
“If there is no growth, there are no sites
in the weed for the phenoxy to work on.
Some level of control will be obtained,
but it will take a long time and it possibly
won’t be the result you hoped for.”
a low volatile product, it provides an
alternative phenoxy herbicide in regions
where the use of older, 2,4-D ester
formulations are subject to local body
regulations or where sensitive crops
have become more widespread.

At this time of year, Sprinter 700DS can
be used to rid established pastures
of nuisance weeds like storksbill,
dandelion, dock, thistle and ragwort.
It is ideal for getting rid of seedling
thistles prior to the coldest part of winter
and it also is a good fit if established
pastures need to be tidied up after a
difficult summer and autumn.
Where necessary, Sprinter 700DS
can be mixed with a wide range of
companion products.
Unlike some other phenoxy herbicides,
Sprinter 700DS does not crystalise under
cold conditions, minimising blockage
of spray equipment. Also, because it is
