“LORD Omnipotent” 2 Kings 2:1-25 Family Theme: Power of God Big Idea: God has the power to keep us in His will. Goal: To live in the power of God To Live in the Power of God Comes By Following • “I don’t know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you when I leave you.” 1 Kings 18:12 • “…the LORD has sent me to Bethel. (Jericho, Jordan)” 2 Kings 2:2 • “Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.” 2 Kings 2:16 Can you make the adjustments it takes to follow God? The Lord Blesses the Hungry • Elisha demonstrates his commitment by turning his 12 oxen into food for the people • Three times Elisha lets Elijah know of his commitment to follow him • Elisha asks to inherit a double portion of the spirit that is upon Elijah • Elisha looks for the power of God as he says, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” How hungry are you for God? “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6, NIV The Power of the LORD Displayed… • Over nature • Concerning death • In judgement of the youths (and Bethel) • In provision • In protection “And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17, NIV. Can You See God at Work? Our Father, You are able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or even imagine. May we have the tenacity of Elijah to follow you wherever Your Spirit may lead us. May we also have the boldness of Elisha to ask for a double portion of Your Spirit. We ask this of You so that You may bring glory to Yourself in Christ Jesus, and so that we may know the power that was at work in Christ’s resurrection and ascension that is available to us. Amen. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2
