REPORT ON THE
LEGACY FOUNDATION (SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM)
Presented to the 92nd Annual General Meeting
Legacy Foundation continues to invest in Canadian youth
Last year, the Professional Institute launched its Legacy Foundation and entered the final decade before its 100th anniversary. As we approach our
centennial year, we reflect on the tremendous contributions our current and past members have made to the Canada we know today, and the
country our children will inherit. As an organization of professionals for whom the pursuit of knowledge is a cornerstone value, the Institute
understands that building a strong future requires investment in the education of our youth. In fact, the mission of the Foundation is to promote the
values of professionalism and service to community by awarding scholarships to students attending post-secondary institutions.
Founders’ Scholarships
The Institute’s tradition of awarding scholarships began in the late 1990s with the generous endowment by the then Comm erce Group of a
considerable sum of money from their constituent body funds. Our legacy of supporting education lives on through Founders’ Scholarships, thanks
to generous donations from the several PIPSC constituent bodies:
• Commerce Group
• Computer Systems Group
• Physical Sciences Group
• Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Group
• Manitoba Association of Government Engineers
• Atlantic Region
• Ottawa Centreville Branch
• Retired Members Guild
This Founders’ Fund is held in an interest-bearing account, and the interest is awarded as Founder’s Scholarships each year. In 2011, the interest
funded one $1,500 and two $1,000 scholarships. In addition, the Foundation thanks the CS Group for sponsoring a $1,500 scholarship this year.

-2A Legacy of Giving
In 2004, the scholarship program was expanded with two new series of scholarships sponsored by generous contributions from corporate
partners in the community. These new sponsorships allowed us to expand the program, awarding over $30,000 per year in educational
assistance to the children and grandchildren of members. To date, $387,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving students.
Meanwhile, in 2002 the inaugural PIPSC Open charity golf tournament was held. Ten tournaments later, sponsors and participants have
contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to children’s charities. Taken together, the Institute has generated $667,000 for young
Canadians.
In creating the Legacy Foundation, the Institute is bringing together under one roof two valuable member and community outreach initiatives,
our Scholarship Program and our charity golf tournament, the PIPSC Open.

-3Sponsors’ Series Scholarships
The Legacy Foundation is proud to partner
in this endeavour with the Boys and Girls
Clubs of Canada (BGCC). Through this
partnership, the Foundation identified and
awarded scholarships to deserving students
who might not otherwise have the
opportunity to gain a post-secondary
education.
As well, children and grandchildren of
members were awarded scholarships based
on community service and academic
excellence.
The Legacy Foundation benefited from the
proceeds of the 2011 PIPSC Open held on
June 23, 2011.
Thanks also to the generosity of our
sponsors, the Legacy Foundation was able
to award a record number of scholarships to
deserving students for the 2011-2012
academic year: 35 scholarships totalling
$78,500. Of these, 20 scholarships were
awarded to children or grandchildren of
PIPSC members, including 4 Founders’
scholarships. In addition, 15 scholarships
were awarded to candidates identified
through our partnership with the Boys and
Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC).

The scholarship program has proven to be a jewel in the Institute’s crown. Both in terms of member benefits and in terms of community
goodwill, the newly re-launched scholarship program and the Professional Institute Legacy Foundation will undoubtedly prove to be proud
achievements for many years to come.
