FROM YOUR
DIRECTOR of MISSIONS
February is here and I just got through with
Christmas and New Year’s activities!
Spring must be just around the corner! I just
don’t know which corner yet. How about
you? Actually, the time passing and the
seasons obviously changing help make this
part of God’s creation, the amazing state of
Tennessee, EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL!
As many of you already know, Stone Association is now on Facebook. This is an advantage to you because you can share events
with us by posting to it and we will put on
the page for others to also see. You can
share praises, prayers requests, or get involved with helping another church with a
mission trip or other event, if you so desire.
PLEASE “LIKE” US ON FACEBOOK.
Thanks!
The time of missions and outreach beyond
our churches is coming up quickly. My
hope is that as we are involved in VBS,
mission trips, campus and other outreaches
we will continue to be intentional. As we go
let us be aware that sharing the good news is
the responsibility of each one who has been
pardoned of sin by the blood of Jesus Christ.
The Great Commission has not been revoked. There is a world beyond our walls
that needs Jesus, so we must be busy sharing
with that world right now. As you doubtless
know, it makes an eternal difference. May
God bless all our efforts this year.
Joe Wiles, DoM
Pathway of Love
There are times in our lives
When decisions must be made
That lead us down certain paths
When directions are obeyed.
But I recommend my Jesus,
He is my Savior and Lord
And going down His pathway,
He binds you with a cord.
So the way is always guided
With help that’s from above
When you choose my Lord’s path
The pathway filled with love.

Baptist History #20
Four Controversies for Baptists in
Colonial America
First, Baptists could not agree on the
extent and nature of divine predestination. Was the eternal fate of every individual already sealed from eternity by
God’s decree of predestination or did
individuals have freedom to accept the
gospel and thus affect their own eternal
destiny? Of course, that was the heart of
the conflict between Particular and General Baptists in England. The question
goes beyond hairsplitting over trifles,
however, for it affects one’s attitude
toward the church and the gospel. The
tendency of Baptists in Colonial America
was to moderate their Calvinism to allow
some degree of human responsibility and
response and to encourage human
“effort,” such as preaching, missions and
evangelism.
Second, Baptists argued over the practice of “laying on of hands” upon new
converts, much as is done in ordination.
General Baptists favored the practice,
and sometimes took the name of SixPrinciple Baptists for their adherence to
the six points of Hebrews 6:1-2, which
includes hands. Particular Baptists gave
less importance to the laying on of hands,
often abandoning the practice altogether.
They were sometimes called FivePrinciple Baptists. Difficult as it may be
for modern readers to believe, churches,
members and ministers often engaged in
heated and divisive controversies over
this question.
A third problem concerned singing
during worship. Few elements in a typical Baptist worship service today are
more familiar than hymn singing, but this
was controversial in the 1680’s among
Baptists in both England and America.
Some churches in America allowed the
singing of biblical texts, such as the
psalms, but not “man-made” songs while
others would not allow singing of any
kind. There was internal turmoil and
many churches split over this issue.
The fourth issue raised the question of
whether public worship should be on
Saturday, the Sabbath, or Sunday, the
first day of the week. Rhode Island was
strongest for Saturday and a number of
Seventh-Day Baptist Churches developed
there and elsewhere. The tendency was
for the Seventh-Day group to withdraw
from the First-Day group although some
continued worshipping together without
breaking fellowship.

DODSON BRANCH
Wishing everyone a great February, which is
know as 'heart month'. The Bible tells us to love
the Lord God with all of your heart.
We appreciate the teaching of Bro. Steven Barlow explaining how Genesis 3 tells us how Satan
tempted Eve and Adam. This temptation
caused the 'fall'. Was there any hope? When
God asked "Adam, where are you?" and "Have
you sinned?" Yes, God provided the way of
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord Romans 5:8. God is a God of forgiveness for people that ask Him. Romans 10:13. We also have
heard the Bible teaching of a former Southern
Baptist Missionary that has served fifteen years
in Latin America, Bro. Donnie R. Starkey. He
has also taught how the book of Genesis is our
basis for Creation and Salvation. We appreciate
him teaching the Adult Sunday School Class and
Preaching during the morning and evening Worship Services. Psalm 27 was taught as encouragement, and that our confidence is from the
Lord. We also appreciate his wife Lori and their
two sons attending our church services! A very
appreciative thank you also to Bro. Marvin Keith
Pryor and his wife for their prayers
and encouragement. Bro. Marvin Keith Pryor is
willing to be our Supply Pastor! How can people hear except by God's Preacher, and how can
they Preach the 'Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ'
except they be called by the leading of the Holy
Spirit!
The 44th March for Life in Washington, D.C.
had the largest crowd in attendance. "The Power
of One" life is so important! Dr. Franklin Graham has announced his 2017 Across Tennessee
VOLUME XXXV ISSUE 2
during May. He stated he is preaching the
"Gospel of Jesus Christ" across Tennessee by
making four stops. He requests all Christians
to pray for him and his team.
Aleigha Conner, beautiful baby daughter of
Samantha and Clint Conner, has been attending
church with her family. God bless the babies!
We still ask everyone to pray for our Country
and pray for one another.
EASTWOOD
This Month's Food for Thought:
When I stand before God at the end of my
life, I would hope that I would have not a
single bit of talent left and could proudly say,
“I used everything you gave me!”
Greetings from Eastwood where Prayer is the
Fuel of Our Faith! Since our last article, we
have experienced multiple illnesses within our
congregation but have also witnessed God's
blessings of healing. And we have shared in
celebrations of life for those who have gone on
to be with the Lord.
In January, we were host to “The Bohannon's” who shared their music ministry, delivering God's message in song. Our congregation participated in the Fifth Sunday Singing
with various solos and enjoyed a heavy focus
on congregational singing from one of our lessfrequently-used hymnals.
Lastly, due to the inclement weather during
the previous few weeks, Eastwood continued
their donations to the Lottie Moon Offering,
collecting a total of $900 toward that effort.
Our Interim Pastor is Rev. Troy Brachey.
GAINESBORO FBC
Blessings to all from Gainesboro First!
December and January were busy months at
our church. The children’s Christmas program
was full of Christ’s love. Thank you to Ms.
Daisy and Ms. Pat and all the children!
Renovations to the church such as plumbing,
electric, painting, new carpet in the playroom
are just a few things that were done to help the
look of our church. Thank you Andy Gray and
your crew. Our large screen was installed and
plans are underway for a Christian movie night.
We plan to serve God and popcorn to other
churches in our area, as well as people of the
community.
Fourteen people came to clean-day. We
worked hard and well together. We were treated with pizza for lunch, thanks to Monty and
Tina.
Shonda and Andy Gray are starting a Bible
Quiz group for our young people. Some of the
older people may participate as well...I did the
first quiz and learned a lot!
Our choir was almost non-existent, but since
the first of the year and much prayer, we have
been blessed with special music. Thank you all
for your participation and time. You are
sounding GREAT!
On the 29th of January we expected to baptize 2 young people, but were blessed with 2
others coming forward to accept the Lord as
their Savior. Welcome Kynlee Davis, Miguel
Welch, Lisa Madsen and her son, Kendall Rich.
What a fount of blessings from God!

generations.” Psalms 100:4-5 (KJV). God is so
good. Great things are happening at Mill Creek
Baptist. We have started 2017 by electing a new

TRINITY
During the month of February, Trinity will be
involved in three events celebrating Black History Month.
January 28 – February 28, the Cookeville

significantly to the Putnam County area. Relics
reflecting aspects of the life and contributions of
Trinity’s late Pastor Emeritus, Reverend
Leroy Jackson, will be a par t of the display.
Sunday, February 12th, Trinity’s Women’s
Missionary Society will host our annual Heritage
Day. The pr ogr am will begin at 10:45 a.m.
and commence during morning worship service.
Along with a guest speaker, and singing and
praising the Lord, a Soul Food Dinner will follow
immediately.
Sunday, February 19th, Trinity and the Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity of Tenn Tech will co-host
the Malcolm Moye Gospel Extravaganza, a musical event featuring different choral groups. The
event was named to pay tribute to the late Bro.
Moye, an officer of TTU’s ROTC program, who
joined the Trinity family while living in
Cookeville. The Extravaganza will begin at 2
p.m. in the Tech Pride Room of TTU’s University Center.
You are always welcome at Trinity. A warm
and cordial greeting awaits you.
Our pastor is Rev. Earl Dirkson
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS
Our year is off to a great start. The children
have begun preparing a special play “The
Three Trees” for Palm Sunday as well as a new
bell song to share with the church. Pray for us
as we seek a pastor.
WILHITE
Pastor Tim began the year preaching a series
entitled “How to have a marriage that lasts a
lifetime!” It has been good for those thinking
about marriage & those that needed a refresher
course, whether they admitted it or not.
January 15th, Sanctity of Life Sunday, Kay
Stori was our special speaker. She brought 75
baby bottles for us to fill with coins, cash or
checks for the TN Right to Life. Our deadline
was Sunday and we have filled 70 bottles & 1
mega bottle (a layette bottle). They will pick up
the bottles and give us a total soon. Of course,
we hope to beat our total of last year of
$1,488.16. If your church would like contact
information please call our office.
We have started a new Young Adult Class
taught by Harvey Rockwell. Pam Stephens,
Sandi Jernigan & Hannah Crouch have started a
new exciting group for young people meeting
the 3rd Saturday of the month. The first meeting
had 13 young people & they named themselves
“#The Wilhite Crew”. Pam has started our
choir preparing an Easter cantata. The WMU
collected baby items for the Rescue Mission.
Pastor Tim led our Back Pack & Cedar Hills
Ministries.

VOLUME XXXV ISSUE 2
MISSIONS MOMENT
BASIC RULES for MISSION TRIPS
1. Keep the focus on Jesus.
2. The relationship is the work.
3. Never pass a potty.
4. Blessed are the flexible...for they
will not get bent out of shape.
This month’s article is inspired by #4.
Since the last edition of the Stone Tablet,
we’ve had a major change in our plans for
the associational summer mission trips.
We are still sending a team to Helena,
Montana, in early June. We are still
sending a team to Langley, Kentucky,
July 2-7, BUT our second planned week
in Kentucky (July 9-14) will instead be
serving in Dayton, Ohio.
We received a call from the mission
center in Kentucky over a recent weekend
letting us know they were overbooked
and needed us to cancel. In God’s divine
timing, we received an email from Ohio
the same day asking for a team to come
help in some outreach projects July 9-14.
We will now have the opportunity to help
mostly Air Force church conduct an outreach basketball camp, some block parties, some door-to-door canvassing, some
