Instructions



Verify that the exam has _____ pages (including this cover sheet). Do not retype the questions,
scan, or duplicate them in any way.
If you are typing your exam, create a header for your document containing the following
information: Your exam number and your instructor’s name. Do not put your name anywhere on
your exam.
Please be sure to pledge your exam before turning it in. You may simply write or type “Pledged”
to complete this process.
Time Limit

Your professor (or the party administering your examination) will set the starting and ending time
of your exam. Pursuant to your professor’s instructions, you are on your honor to spend no more
than _______ hours completing this exam. Immediately following the conclusion of this time,
you are to follow the instructions below regarding submitting your answers and handing in your
test paper.
Turning in your exam (if you are using a computer)



No student should print his/her exam.
Answers will be submitted as a PDF using the following naming convention – Course
Number_Professor’sName_ExamNumber (105_Murchison_444, for example). For instructions
regarding how to save a PDF, please see the “Technical Assistance” section of these instructions.
Answers will be uploaded to the appropriate Sakai course folder. You must also email the
answers to [email protected]. Answers must be uploaded to the appropriate Sakai folder
and emailed to [email protected] within ten (10) minutes of the end of the examination
period. You must, however, complete your answers within the examination period. Any answers
submitted more than ten (10) minutes after the end of the examination period will be marked as
late.
For instructions regarding how to access Sakai, please see the “Technical Assistance” section of
these instructions.
Please be sure to upload your answers to the Sakai folder corresponding to the appropriate exam
administration time – For example “American Public Law Process (Murchison) 04/27 ” for an
exam administered on that day. Once your exam is successfully uploaded, you will receive an
email receipt confirming its successful submission.
When emailing your answers, you should include the course number, your professor’s name and
your examination number in your email’s subject line. You will receive an email confirming
receipt of your emailed exam.
Please be sure to save the confirmation receipts you receive from both Sakai and
[email protected] for your records.



All tests (the final exam that was given to you at the beginning of the examination period) must
be returned to the classroom in which the exam is administered within fifteen (15) minutes of the
end of the examination period. Please place your test in the box provided or on the instructor’s
desk in the front of the room.
Please be sure to keep a copy of your exam answers on your computer or shared drive until June
15. This is simply a precautionary measure in the event there is an issue with your document as
submitted.
Turning in your exam (if you are handwriting your exam**)
Please take note of the instructions below. You must return your exam answers and questions to
DIFFERENT locations.

If you wrote your exam by hand, you should bring your answers to Linda Johnson in Room 508
within ten (10) minutes of the end of the examination period. You must, however, complete your
exam within the time allotted. Any student who fails to turn in the exam within ten (10) minutes
of the completion of the exam period will be marked as late.

However, all tests (the final exam that was given to you at the beginning of the examination
period) must be returned to the classroom in which the exam is administered within fifteen (15)
minutes of the end of the examination period. Please place your test in the box provided or on the
instructor’s desk in the front of the room.

**If a professor requires ALL students in a course to handwrite their exams, the examinations and the test
questions should be returned to the classroom in which the exam is administered. This is an exception to
the protocol described above.
Turning in your exam (Take Home Exams):
For a take home exam, students are expected to complete the exam within the time limit set by the
professor.
To turn in your exam, simply follow the instructions described above, pursuant to the following
exceptions:
All students should return their test questions to Linda Johnson unless instructed otherwise.
For students typing their exam, when uploading your exam to Sakai, you will upload your exam to the
“Take Home” folder.
For students handwriting their exam, you will turn in your exam answers to Linda Johnson in Room 508.
Technical Assistance:
If you experience a computer issue at any point during the exam, please contact Technology Services
immediately. Technology Services’ office is Room #311, located on the 3rd floor of the law school at the

To save a document as a PDF:
1. Once you have finished typing your document, save and name your document in .doc format.
MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR EXAM NUMBER AT THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF EACH PAGE OF
YOUR ANSWERS.
2. After you have saved your document as a .doc file, click on the File tab.
3. Select “Save As” from the drop-down menu.
4. In the document name, please be sure to observe the required naming convention: Course
Number_Professor’sName_ExamNumber (105_Murchison_444, for example)
5. After naming your document appropriately, please select “PDF” from the “Format” drop down menu.
6. Once your file is named correctly and saved as a PDF, you are ready to upload your document to Sakai
and email your document to [email protected].
To access Sakai:
To prevent any slowness issues, please close all unnecessary windows and applications prior to
uploading your exam.
1. Go to: https://sakai.wlu.edu/
2. Login using your Outlook login information. (see email)
3. Once you have logged in, click on your course site located along the header row at the top of the
homepage (or under “More Sites”).
4. Once you arrive at the “course site” homepage, click on “Assignments” from the menu on the left side
of the page.
5. After clicking on the “Assignments” tab, select the folder corresponding to your examination period,
for example, “Torts (Murchison) 12/05” for that exam administered that day.
6. Once your exam is successfully uploaded, you will receive an email receipt confirming its successful
submission. Please be sure to save your confirmation receipt.
7. Lastly, please be sure to email your exam to [email protected]. You will receive an email
confirming receipt of your emailed exam.
