The word "Deciduous" means "falling at a certain season". “Deciduous forest” means a forest in which
the leaves fall off the trees when winter comes.

Deciduous forests can be found in the middle of Europe.

The average annual temperature in a deciduous forest is 50° F (10 Celsius degrees). The average
rainfall is 30 to 60 inches a year. (75 to 150 centimeters).
The deciduous forest has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

The trees are tall and their leaves are large. In autumn the leaves start falling and change color: from
green to red, yellow and brown. In winter the trees lose completely their leaves.

There are many types of animals in the deciduous forest ranging from mammals like deer to bugs like
mosquitoes. Many animals eat nuts and leaves, others are omnivores. Many of the animals have

camouflaged to look like the ground.
