automates the electronic
distribution and processing
of print data before it is
committed to paper or sent
to the recipients. In this way,
ESM Output Management
converts the flood of printing
tasks in heterogeneous
environments regardless
whether they originate
from operating systems
or applications into an
organized, efficient and
controllable printing and
distribution process.
With ESM Output Management, business
process documents, such as pension account
statements, tax assessments, writs of payment
and invoices but also ad-hoc documents are
automatically created from the print data in
spooling systems or sequential files according
to defined rules. Filters can be used to separate
important data from irrelevant data, plus related
information from various sources that were
generated at different times can be bundled
automatically.
ESM Output Management uses distribution
lists coupled with time and event controls
to dispatch documents to their respective
recipients, which can be persons, printers,
archives or office systems.
The investment in ESM Output Management
pays off as a result of the reduction of paper
and postage, as well as through the decrease
in manual post-processing. The printing
systems efficiency factor is increased
significantly. Not only do costs decrease for
the printing organization, but also, the quality
of data center service is drastically improved
due to the greater flexibility in the printing
process. Depending on the wishes of the
recipient, invoices can either be sent via the
printing queue to shipping or they can be
sent via email or another method of delivery.
This application-independent post-processing,
such as the conversion of printing lists to
Webcapable XML documents and publishing
them on the Web, provides considerable
time and cost advantages.

CA-SpoolTM, Natural Advanced Facilities, etc.

post-processing from VTAM® as well as local
workstations
• Automated distributed printing on TCP/IP

documents via authorized profiles from CICS®,
IMSTM, UTM, Windows and Web browsers

ESM Output Management is part of the Entire
Systems Management (ESM) product family.
These systems have a graphical user interface
that combines the ergonomics of ISPF with
the convenience of a PC. All functions and
objects can be accessed from applications via
application programming interfaces. Access to
operating system data and services is enabled
through Entire System Server which acts as a
general interface.
Integration with system management
ESM components access information from
systems such as Tivoli®, Unicenter® and Patrol®
and reports production status to these platforms.
Integration with application platforms
Internal data and states from systems such as
SAP® or customized solutions (e.g., COBOL/
DB2®) are used to automate and optimize the
process’ data center operations. Converseley,
internal conditions of ESM can be used to
trigger the applications.

Baden-Württemberg State Ministry uses
ESM Output Management to reduce
postage costs
The Baden Württemberg State Ministry of Food
and Agriculture has implemented an exemplary
solution for one of its key tasks using ESM
Output Management. 60,000 agricultural
businesses in the state receive subsidies and
compensation from state, federal and European
Union funds. The Baden-Württemberg state
center for data processing (Landeszentrum für
Datenverarbeitung) is responsible for the
IT-processing of application appraisals and
fund distribution.
The assessments and official notifications to
the agricultural businesses are generated for
all types of procedures which cover the whole
range of promotional programs over the course
of an application year. Before ESM Output
Management was introduced each notification
was sent as a self-contained letter. Now, Entire
Output Management collects the notifications
for each applicant/business over a defined
period, organizes them according to a
predefined structure and generates a print
job for all notifications according to the
postal code. The introduction of this
procedure along with postage optimization
saves the organization tens of thousands
of Euros annually.
