THIS WEEK: JENNIFER BLUM, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PORTAGE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY
Thank You:
Thank you to Nancy Thiede, Housing Coordinator for CAP Services for speaking to our
club on July 24th. CAP Services is a non-profit organization that works on behalf of the
community to increase economic self-sufficiency. Nancy explained CAP Services’ First
Time Home Buyer Program to the club.
Reminders and Updates:
•
You don’t want to miss Keith Pilger’s very first Foundation Minute which he will present to the club August 7th. He promises it will be UNFORGETABLE.
•
If you haven’t already—please pay Bob Tabor for the August 2nd Timber Rattlers
game. Carpooling arrangements will be made soon.
•
Bob (with the help of his beautiful wife Monica) put together a large banner to display the banners of International Rotary clubs we have visited. Take a look at the
banner at the next club meeting and see all the places we’ve been! If you plan on
traveling (either within the U.S. or internationally) and want to visit another Rotary
club, please contact Rob at [email protected] so he can get you in touch
with clubs in the area you are visiting. We also have our own club banners to give
out as well.
•
Rotary is a large and complex organization that does many wonderful things, but it
is often difficult to explain what Rotary is to others. Here is a link to Rotary Basics:
http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/595en.pdf. Please use this brochure
to answer questions you may have about Rotary and as a handout for others with
questions about Rotary.
•
Ted Carapezza’s application was approved by the board at the last executive meeting. We look forward to officially welcoming Ted at club assembly on August 7th.
Welcome Ted!
•
Our club recently donated $500.00 toward the PowerFlour program.
A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more
useful than a life spent doing nothing.

HAPPY DOLLARS:
Rick is happy that he is a
finalist for the City Engineer/
Director of Public Works
position for the City of
Stevens Point.
We wish you luck Rick!
Jami is happy her
husband’s softball team
finally won a game. They
beat the other team 8 – 5.
Mandy is happy that Nancy
Thiede from CAP Services
presented to our club.
Shannon is happy she is
going to the Warp Tour
Rock Festival at
Summerfest in Milwaukee.
Get to know your fellow Rotarian:
In attempt to get to know club member’s better we periodically include their answers to
the Proust questionnaire. Enjoy getting to know our club’s Foundation Chair, Keith Pilger.
Your favorite virtue:
GENEROSITY
Your chief characteristic:
CURIOSITY
What you appreciate the most in your friends: THEY MAKE ME LAUGH.
Your idea of happiness:
A WEEKEND WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS ON A LAKE IN
NORTHERN WISCONSIN
Your idea of misery:
THE DENTIST CHAIR.
If not yourself, who would you be?
WELL, IF I WASN'T RELATIONSHIP KEITH, THEN I
WOULD BE INDEPENDENT KEITH. I CAN'T POSSIBLY BE BOTH BECAUSE A KEITH DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF CANNOT STAND. (WORLDS WOULD COLLIDE.)
Where would you like to live? OTHER THAN PUTTING MY HOUSE ON THE WATER, I'M
HAPPY RIGHT WHERE I'M AT.
Your favorite color.
GREEN
Your favorite flower.
TULIPS
Your favorite heroes in fiction. ATTICUS FINCH
Your favorite composers.
JIMMY BUFFET
Your favorite painters.
MY KIDS
Your favorite heroes in real life. ANYONE WHO COMMITS SELFLESS ACTS OF KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, COURAGE, OR BRAVERY.
What characters in history do you most dislike. SO MANY VILLAINS, SO LITTLE
SPACE. IN A BROAD SENSE:
TERRORISTS.
Your heroes in World history
ABRAHAM LINCOLN
Your favorite food and drink.
A GREASY BAR BURGER AND A COLD CORONA ON A
HOT SUMMER DAY. (NOW THAT IS LIVING.)
Your favorite names.
I'LL TAKE THE EASY ROUTE, BUT IT’S TRUE: KRISTI,
KELSEY, KONNOR, & KLARE.
What you hate the most.
INEFFICIENCY
The natural talent you’d like to be gifted with.
THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND MATH.
Your favorite motto.
WHEN ASKED IF I EXERCISE, MY GENERAL RESPONSE
WILL BE: "I ONLY RUN WHEN CHASED."
