How to write a Division Problem (5-6 min.)
Volunteer Parent/ Helper Instructions
Step 1: Please have the student you are working with view the following
video. (2-3 min.) Ask the student to watch carefully for the three different
ways a division problem can be written.

Step 2: Show the student the
following circles. Have the
student count the circles. Ask
the student trace with their finger
how they could break these 15
circles into 3 equal groups. Ask
the student how many is in each
group. The answer should be 5 in
each group.
Step 3: Tell the student the following problem that was illustrated in Step 2.
There are three friends who want to share 15 gumballs. How many gumballs will
each person get?
Step 4: Have the student write the 3 different written division problems they could
use to solve the problem in Step 3. (Use the video for reference if you need to.)
Check the student’s work for accuracy.
