GARNER’S WEEKLY
CONWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Math
In math, we have finished our
unit on factors, multiples, arrays,
and equations. The unit test will be
on Friday, October 10th. Next week
we will reinforce the concepts
learned with games and other
activities. In preparation for the
test, students should review the
problems from the yellow practice
packet, vocabulary words, and the
learning targets, all of which are in
their yellow math folders.
When students take the test
next Friday, they will need to rely
on their own recall of math facts
and other strategies they have
learned. Students have been asked
to complete at least one XtraMath
lesson each day until they are able
to answer every fact within 3
seconds. Thank you for your support
in making sure your child is
practicing math facts daily.
Spelling
The spelling pre-test was given
on Wednesday. The spelling pattern
for this list is homophones. Our next
spelling test will be on Wednesday,
October 8th.
Reading
The results of The Power of W.O.W tests
are in this week’s Friday Folder. Please review the
results with your child and sign and return the
scoring sheet on Monday.
Our next story, Stormalong is a tall tale
about a thirty-foot sailor named Alfred Bulltop
Stormalong and the strength, courage, and kindness
that made him legendary. As we read this story,
the students will explore the following skills:
•Understand characters’ traits, feelings and
motivations
•Draw inferences about a character
•Analyze a story’s point of view
•Identify and appreciate hyperbole
•Recognize homophones
•Identify proper nouns
•Consult dictionary to find pronunciation and
determine or clarify meaning
Science
This week we began the first unit in science,
Mixtures and Solutions. The students will rotate
through the 4th grade classrooms while conducting labs
with each of the 4th grade teachers.
