• History of NUMU. Provide visitors who m ay be new to NUM U with an
approxim ation of the following: Welcome to New Museum Los Gatos or NUMU.
We have been in this location for just over a year, opening here in June 2015. We were
formerly located at the Art Museum on Tait Avenue, and the History Museum at
Forbes Mill, and moved to our new location fifty years after we first opened. Dr. Ethel
Dana, who asserted that she could not raise her children in a town that had no
museum, founded the Art and History Museums in 1965. Our new location allows us
to have our Art and History exhibits under one roof, as well as our permanent
collection, which has been moved here from Forbes Mill.
Travel Route: Consider how long it will take to walk your route. Have alternate routes in
mind in case visitors have special needs, e.g. wheelchair, etc. Be aware that some older
visitors may need chairs in the gallery, and ideally please communicate this to the Front
Desk staff before your tour begins.
Select Art/History Objects in each gallery:
Time: ______
Location: _____
Interactive Technique:
It’s helpful to include ideas for each painting/sculpture/object you will be focusing on in your
tour to help remind you that you need to be visitor-centered; you need to build off of visitor
responses and interests; you need to ask if they have any questions about the object. E.g.
compare/contrast. What do you see? How would you describe this? How do you feel about
this object?
