Being a Professional Soldier Athlete

PERFORMANCE TRIAD | MODULE 1
Module 1:
Being a Professional
Soldier Athlete
Welcome to the Army National Guard Performance Triad program. This content package is intended
to provide state facilitators with resources, such as articles, social media messages, discussion topics,
health tools, and infographics, to support the first module of the Performance Triad program. The
resources are provided as Suggested Daily Actions for state facilitators to strategically distribute
the content to Soldiers during the week to reinforce Performance Triad program learning objectives
and materials. Using the Performance Triad’s scientifically-proven principles of sleep, activity, and
nutrition to target changes in Soldiers’ daily routines will help build stronger, faster, and mission-ready
Professional Soldier Athletes.
For more information on how best to use these weekly guides, see our Performance Triad Getting
Started Guide (http://www.guardyourhealth.com/toolkits/performance-triad/getting-started-guide/).
Module 1 Learning Objectives
Professional Soldier Athletes must cultivate a strong mind, body, and spirit to achieve optimal
performance. The learning objectives for Module 1 are:
1) To help Soldiers understand what it means to be a Professional Soldier Athlete
2) To guide individual Soldiers to identify the areas of improvement needed to achieve peak
performance through proper sleep, activity, and nutrition
What is a Professional Soldier Athlete?
A profession is a calling that requires intensive preparation, specialized education, and continuous
learning and development of skills. A Soldier requires no definition. An athlete is someone who is
trained or skilled in events that require physical, mental, and emotional strength, agility, and endurance.
So…being a Professional Soldier Athlete requires Soldiers to make the same effort to constantly
improve themselves and their game – just as professional athletes do.
The Performance Triad helps Soldiers constantly improve as a Professional Soldier Athlete. The
Performance Triad’s scientifically-proven principles of sleep, activity, and nutrition work to target
changes in Solders’ daily routines to help them become stronger, faster, learner, and mentally sharper.
