"Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been
produced by His hand that made all things of nothing,
... and as one small candle may light a thousand, so
the light here kindled hath shone unto mariYiyea, in
some sort to our whole nation;"
These words by Governor William Bradford were wriHen
over 300 years ago, in his "History of Plymouth
Plantation." Now, as in the past, these inspirational
words predict the future. They give us co·nfidence and
courage-the "one small candle" lighted the spark of
liberty. That spark of liberty determined our way of
life-freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom
of the press. Yes, America is a nation of hope, a country
of freedom. America is a land where our forefathers
died so that we might enioy liberty.
