PREL-SHADE Thermochromic Glass PREL-SHADE – INSULATING GLASS DESCRIPTION Prel-Shade is a thermochromic glass that changes color when it is warmed by the sun. During a period of strong sunshine, the glass will heat up and become darker and will, as a result, reduce the solar gain inside the building. As the strength of the sun diminishes at the end of the day or on cloudy overcast days, the glass remains clear, permitting a greater amount of natural light to enter. Insulating glass : 5 mm clear, Prel-Shade interlayer, 5 mm clear / 11,5 mm Argon / 6 mm Low-e on clear prelco.ca PREL-SHADE Thermochromic Glass ADVANTAGES LIMITS SOLAR HEAT Because of its thermochromic properties, PrelShade mitigates heat gain when exposed to the sun and allows natural light to enter once the strong period of sunshine has passed. Air conditioning costs are thus reduced while maximizing the effects of natural light. In winter, Prel-Shade is equally advantageous because it remains completely clear during cold sunny days thus allowing a better heat gain. REDUCES GLARE WHILE PRESERVING THE APPEARANCE OF THE BUILDING Prel-Shade counters the glare and the visual fatigue of occupants when the sun is strong. The glazing eliminates the need for blinds, curtains and other window treatments thus maintaining a uniform appearance of the facade of the building while increasing the comfort of the occupants. INSTALLS LIKE REGULAR GLASS AND ADAPTS TO THE EXISTING WINDOWS Prel-shade does not require electrical wiring or any control system. The glazing is installed as easily as regular glazing. Furthermore, with an overall thickness of as little as 31 mm, the glazing can be used in most curtain walls and window frames. AVAILABLE IN SEVERAL TINTS The thermochromic interlayer can be used with clear or tinted glass. When it is put together with clear glass, the interlayer appears to be green. This base color can be modified by using tinted glass. In reacting to heat, Prel-Shade offers the best performance when utilizing this last combination. HAS THE SAME ADVANTAGES AS TRADITIONAL LAMINATED GLASS Just like regular laminated glass, Prel-Shade is assembled using interlayers of PVB and has all the same advantages. It offers increased resistance to impact and meets the CPSC 16 CFR1201- Safety Standards for Architectural Glazing Materials. It filters more than 99 % of the UV rays, the primary cause of discoloration of interior surfaces and provides sound-proofing that is superior to traditional monolithic glass. Optimal temperature ranges lie between 25°C to 65°C (glass surface temperature). It requires about 20 to 30 minutes exposure to direct sun before the glass reaches its darkest color. In the absence of sunlight, the same time would be required for the glass to return to its original state. DURABILITY Accelerated aging tests carried out by an independent laboratory show that the Prel-Shade interlayer will last 20 years. 94, Cartier boulevard, Rivière-du-Loup Quebec Canada G5R 2M9 Phone : 418 862-2274 Fax : 418 862-8181 www.prelco.ca [email protected] Toll free : 1 800 463-1325 / 1 888 277-3526 PS10812 Prelco Inc. reserves the right to make any changes without prior notice. - Printed in Canada. - Graphic Design : etincelle.ca PREL-SHADE
