YOU Be the Mapmaker Assignment Create an autobiography map that shows the events, items, people, and other things that have created who you are. Although each map will be different (because you are all different people) they will also have some similarities that will show your understanding of mapping skills. Your map should have all the features listed below. GOOD COPY DUE – Tuesday Sept. 20th All features added to your map must be given names. These names will represent who you are and/or events that have occurred in your life. For example: A lake or large body of water might be called “GS Lake” because this year you are in GS Lakie! Or a mountain might be called “Mt. Lakie-o-riffic” because you think this school is terrific. (note: not everything has to – or should - do with GS Lakie) BE CREATIVE! *** Don’t forget to colour it! Make it your beautiful piece of art! *** READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN. 1. First, you will need to draw a compass rose to use. Draw it in the bottom right hand corner of the page. This compass rose should be made out of something that reflects who you are. Hockey Sticks? Ballet slippers? Guitars? What do you love that guides you wherever you go? 2. At the top of your page, create a name for your island! Remember to keep it something about you! 3. The main body of land will be an island. This island should be in the shape of your first letter in your name. It should take up the majority of space on your paper. 4. There is at least one lake located on your island. This lake(s) should be named after activities or interests you have. 5. Mountains cover the north side of the island. Name these mountains after a book(s) or movie(s) that have influenced your life. 6. There are 3 different provinces on the island. Each province should be named after someone in your in family. If you have more than 3 members in your family, you can add provinces, or combine them into one province. If you have less than 3 people, add in from extended family, friends, or pets. 7. The SE corner of your island is a desert. This desert should be named after a fear that you have. What are you scared of, or what do you not like? 8. The entire island is surrounded by an ocean. Name this ocean after your favorite teacher! 9. A twisting river winds from the NW corner to the SW side of the island. This river should be named to explain your favorite subject/class in school. 10. The south and west shorelines are covered in sandy beach. Name this beach after your most influential friend. 11. There is an active volcano on the WEST side of island. In the name of this volcano, explain something that makes you want to explode!
