Installing Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows

Installing Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows
Firstly visit the University secure
downloads website at
http://go.bath.ac.uk/downloads
and download the correct
installer package.
Once downloaded, ensure you
are logged on as an
Administrator and double click
the installer package to start
installation. You will then be
presented with dialog box to
extract the files required for
installation.
It is suggested that you do not
change the path which will in
most cases be translated to
C:\SAVTempInstallFiles
Once the files have been
extracted a silent installation of
Sophos Anti-Virus will start. This
will be indicated by a command
window.
Sophos Anti-Virus is actually
made up of two parts, so initially
the Sophos AutoUpdate
component will be installed.
Once the Sophos AutoUpdate
component has finished
installation it will automatically
fetch the main Sophos AntiVirus component. This will be
indicated by a message from the
installer package.
Once you have read the
message you can then click OK
to close the installer package.
You will now see the Sophos
‘shield’ icon on the Windows
task bar. Whilst this is
downloading and installing the
main Sophos Anti-Virus
component it will be grey but
animated with a green line.
Once all the Sophos
components are installed then
the ‘shield’ in the task bar will
turn blue. The first time you
install Sophos Anti-Virus you
may notice a small yellow
warning triangle, which is quite
normal and should disappear
once you have rebooted your
computer.
At this point we recommend
that you restart/reboot your
computer to ensure that Sophos
is fully operational.
After your computer has
restarted we recommend that
you right click over the Sophos
‘shield’ in the task bar and select
the option to ‘Update now…’
Once you are happy that Sophos
is update successfully then you
can safely delete the expanded
installation files.
