Throw Down Some Color
Most rental properties have neutral flooring and walls that go with a wide variety of color schemes and decors.
While it's easy to work around those beiges and pale grays when it comes time to buy furniture or hang curtains. If
you'd like to opt for something more colorful, however, you don't have to negotiate to have your carpeting or
paint replaced. Throw rugs and pillows can accent the room with the color of your choice, or you can liven things
up by scattering them about in different shapes and colors. Best of all, they're easy to move around and to swap
out if you get bored, buy a new piece of furniture or even want to change with the seasons.

COMMUNITY TIP
Throwing a Party Makes Halloween Sweeter
Halloween is the perfect holiday to throw a festive party with your friends and family. There are many fun ways to embrace this holiday and throw a
great party that everyone will enjoy.
Here are some tips for a spooktacular Halloween party:
- Send Festive Invitations. Get crafty and make your own invitations or save time and buy some invitations at your local paper goods store. Make sure
to state if costumes are required and think about setting a theme or including a prize for the best costume. This will give guests more of an incentive to
dress up and have fun at the party.
- Decorate Your Space. It's easy this time of year to find pumpkins and gourds at your local grocery store to dress up your apartment. Display pumpkins
on tables and put gourds in a bowl for a festive centerpiece. You can also use spare ribbon to decorate mini pumpkins for an easy statement piece.
- Play a Few Games. Take a vote with your guests on who had the best costume of the night or fill up a few buckets with water and bob for apples. You
could also buy some extra pumpkins (or require your guests to bring one) and have a pumpkin carving contest.
- Serve Halloween Themed Food and Drink. To keep drinks cold at your party you can cut a pumpkin in half, fill it with ice, and use it as a cooler. Cut a
mini pumpkin in half, clean it out, and use it as a bowl for dips. Orange, yellow and white (carrots, peppers and cauliflower) vegetables arranged on a
platter can look like candy corn. Of course, a bowl of candy is a must at any Halloween party. Your guests will love these festive treats.
Seasonal Recipe
Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Scoop out the seeds of a pumpkin. Discard the stringy fibers and rinse the seeds well. Bring a medium pot of water
to a boil. Add the seeds, reduce heat and boil gently for 10 minutes. Drain seeds well and pat dry. Place seeds in a
bowl and toss with oil. Spread seeds in a single layer on a baking dish. Roast seeds at 250 degrees, stirring every 10
minutes, until just crisp and golden brown, for about one hour. Cool completely and enjoy!
Fun Fact: The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,140 pounds!

What's the Best Way to Get a Quick Response
When I Have Problems or Questions?
Brighten Your Own Day with a Smile
Organization and clear communication is always the key to
getting a problem solved quickly. For example, if you must leave
a message or a note for management, make sure to be specific.
Though a "please call me" will get you a call back, it might not
come at a time when you're available, and it might be just the
first step if further action is required. A message that describes
your problem, clearly states what type of action you're looking
for and includes clear instructions as to when you'll be available
and at what telephone number will make it much easier to
move forward efficiently. That way, management can gather
any additional information or schedule a maintenance visit
before returning your call, and reach out to you at the time
you're most likely to connect.
We're more likely to smile when we're already feeling good, but
making the effort can lead to increased happiness. Smiling releases
endorphins and serotonin, boosting mood. It also lowers your blood
pressure and strengthens your immune system. On the flipside,
people who frowned during an unpleasant procedure reported
feeling more pain than those who didn't. It seems that the cause and
effect between our moods and our facial expressions works both
ways. Controlling your expression may be the easiest way to alter
your outlook. As an added bonus, smiling is contagious. That means
that your smile will inspire others to do the same, spreading those
same benefits to those around you.
