VISION’S of Blue Benefit Event
“I was very impressed!”
“We had a fabulous time last night!”
“Thank you for providing success opportunities for students.”
“The concert was outstanding!!”
“Congrats on a fabulous evening. You have brought remarkable vision to life.”
The 2004 Benefit Event, Visions
of Blue, was a huge success!
Internationally acclaimed blues singer
Shemekia Copeland and her fabulous
band delivered an outstanding performance
to a packed house at the Stockbridge
Theatre at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New
Hampshire. Back by popular demand from last
year were blues artist Dan Lennon and singer
songwriter Lisa Lipkin who warmed up the
appreciative crowd for the feature performance.
The talented Holly Harris, 92.9 WBOS host of the
“Blues on Sunday” show, energized the crowd as the
Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The show
concluded with Shemekia Copeland’s foot-stomping
rendition of “Let the Good Times Roll.”
During the evening, Jayme’s Fund awarded two
grants. The first award of
$2000 was presented to
the Derry School District
to fund the Leader’s in
Prevention Program and
the Family Education
Series. It was received by
Dan Gendron, a recent
Gilbert H. Hood graduate
who months earlier
made an outstanding
presentation to the
Jayme’s Fund Advisory
Board demonstrating
his personal strengths
and skills that were
gained from his experience in the Leaders in
Prevention Program.
The second grant of $2500 was presented to
Summerbridge,
Manchester.
This
year,
Summerbridge named a scholarship in Jayme’s
memory. A Jayme’s Scholar recipient will be
named annually for “a student who is intellectual, creative, expressive,
socially conscious and motivated to make the world a better place.”
Kerlyne Desire accepted the grant on behalf of Summerbridge
Manchester. Dan and Kerlyne delivered impressive speeches, sharing
their experiences and explaining the programs for which they were
accepting the awards.
Thank you to our sponsors who made this evening possible:
Parkland Medical Center, Landmark Benefits, Margarita’s Mexican
Restaurant, Stericyle and Southern NH Internal Medicine
Associates.
Our sincerest thanks to everyone…those who generously donated
their talents, time, services, money, ideas and support, and to those
of you who came to the performance.
We are so very grateful for your kind and generous support!
Remembering Jayme
Legacy
With her strong ideals and passionate nature, Jayme
would have been in the thick of this year’s political
conversation. While Jayme was a passionate debater
with strong viewpoints, it was dialogue between
informed people that she valued most and societal
complacency that she strove to shake up. As a young
leader who cared about many social issues, Jayme affected
those around her. A Pinkerton Academy senior wrote her
college essay about Jayme’s influence on her life:
This is what you have left behind,
Your heart, your soul, your mind.
You’ve left us broken,
But invoking thought,
Reflecting life.
“I admired her intelligence, creativity, optimism, awareness
and activism. I hope to aspire to her persistence and
hard work. Jayme’s passions and aspirations of helping
others through activism and education have instilled a
desire with me to also take action. Because of how
much Jayme had accomplished at the age of seventeen,
I am convinced that everyone has the ability to change
the world, including myself.”
Though short your life
Remarkable!
Works accomplished in your name
Will make you proud.
People helped will smile at you
Every smile becoming a star
Enlightening their way.
We are grateful that this student and so many others
continue to share how Jayme touched their lives. By
sharing these stories and by funding initiatives that
promote education, tolerance and human rights, we
keep Jayme’s concerned and giving spirit alive.
May Jayme’s memory and the memory of all those we
hold near and dear, remain an inspiration to all of us…to
always try our best, to treat every person with dignity
and respect and to cherish those we love.
Thank you for your support…thank you for remembering Jayme.
Life is Good, Inc. is
working with Jayme’s
Fund to develop a T-shirt
that will help raise funds. Jake and the Life
is Good company produce quality products
while spreading optimism around the
world. We are pleased that Jake and the
Jayme’s Fund logo are teaming up to
promote positive change.

First Jayme’s Scholar Named
FULL MOON MARGARITA MADNESS
In June, during Summerbridge
Manchester’s Celebration 2004, the
Jayme’s Scholar was awarded to Rooa Abdelrahim, a 6th grade
student at the Middle School at Parkside, Manchester, NH.
Jayme’s Scholar is given to a student who is “intellectual, creative,
expressive, socially conscious, and is motivated to make the
world a better place.”
Every month, on the night of the full moon, Margarita’s
Restaurant throws a party in their lounge, donating a
portion of the sales to local charities. This summer, Jayme's
Fund was the recipient of the Full Moon Madness charitable
program. Margarita’s restaurant donated $600 to Jayme’s Fund.
Thank you Margarita’s for your generous contribution!
And, thanks to everyone who turned out to support Jayme’s Fund!
Congratulations, Rooa!
