on the mountain. Springerville is a well-kept secret with
unique cultural, educational and economic opportunities
stemming from the area’s gold mine of resources,
including: a rich multicultural society, extensive historic
holdings, diverse natural resources, and myriad of
recreational opportunities. Springerville is located in

sits at an elevation of 7000 feet.
Principal Economic Activities
A variety of industries shape Springerville’s economy.
Tourism, agriculture, construction, forestry and retail
sales have helped Springerville grow in this beautiful
country with 4 seasons and temps ranging from 20’s to
90’s. Springerville is a friendly, small town (population of
2000), perfect to raise families, start a business, take a
vacation or plan to retire. It has a full service hospital, K12 school, a community college, and an airport. Our
hospitality industry boasts of new and historic hotels
loaded with restaurants to accommodate all tastes. Service to the tourist trade and local community is the
major contributor to the employment structure, followed by retail trade. Springerville Generating Station,
operated by Tucson Electric Power, employs 200 people.
Scenic Attractions
Summer visitors enjoy hiking, cycling, horseback riding, camping, hunting and ATVing on miles of trails. One
can also spend the day fishing at Becker Lake or numerous lakes in the area and have lunch in one of our
wonderful restaurants. Take a day tour through Casa Malapais Indian Ruins or spend some time walking
through the beautiful wildlife area of the Little Colorado River Walk or visit Historical Park, which contains
buildings representing early pioneers. Spend the night at one of our many (‘western flavor’) hotels or spend
some time looking thru our boutiques/stores that offer something you may not find elsewhere.
The Apache-Sitegreaves National Forest is our playground with more than 2 million acres of mountain
country in east-central Arizona. Snuggled up against the town, this mostly high-country forest contains an
abundance of wildlife. It has cool clear mountain streams, ponds and reservoirs teeming with trout.
Winter activities include skiing at Sunrise Park Ski Resort, ice fishing, hunting or visiting the nearby
mountain resort towns of Greer, Alpine, and Nutrioso, which hold festivals and events throughout the year.
