Layers of Earth
Unlike the all the other planets Earth has four layers. There are four main
layers. They are the crust, mantle, outer core and the inner core.
The first layer is the crust. The crust is the layer that we live on, but it is also
the thinnest layer. The crust is thicker under continents than oceans. It is made
out of solid rock.
The next and second layer is the mantle. The mantle is the thickest layer of
all! Rocks move or flow due to pressure and high temperatures. The mantle is a
layer of rock lying below the crust.
The third layer is outer core. The outer core is made out of molten iron.
Since it is made out of molten iron it is a totally liquid layer. The outer core is inbetween the mantle and the inner core. Also the inner core floats in this layer.
The fourth and final layer is the inner core. The inner core is at the center of
the Earth. It is a solid sphere that is mostly made out of iron. The inner core spins
at a different rate than the rest of the Earth. Scientists think that since it spins at a
different rate than the rest of the Earth that it creates Earth’s magnetic field.
As you can see there are four layers making up Earth. They are the crust,
the mantle, outer core and the inner core. And who knows somebody might
discover more layers.
