5th November: BONFIRE NIGHT THE STORY GUY FAWKES In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes, a catholic man, and his friends plan to kill King James I of England because he is a protestant. This is called ‘The Gunpowder Plot’. Guy Fawkes is caught hiding a lot of explosive in the cellars of the Parliament . He is put in prison and then he is killed with all his friends. BONFIRE NIGHT TRADITIONS On Bonfire Night, the children create their own Guy Fawkes , a puppet with stuff and straw, and put him on the bonfire. There are many fireworks in the sky in London and through Great Britain to celebrate Guy Fawkes’ death. They eat baked potatoes, toffee apples and sausages.
