Getting started with the ECDC Map Maker - EMMa This guide explains how you get access to EMMa as a new user. It consists of three sections: Registering as a user – describes how to set yourself up as an EMMa user. Accessing EMMa - describes how you access EMMa for your first session. Logging on to EMMa - describes how you access EMMa for subsequent sessions. After you have logged on to EMMa, you will find information on how to create and edit maps in EMMa’s online help and user manual. Registering as a user To register as a user of EMMa 1. Enter the EMMa Portal’s URL https://emma.ecdc.europa.eu in your browser’s address bar, or click on the link in the Data & Tools webpage on the ECDC Portal. The EMMa home page opens. 2. Familiarise yourself with the information on the home page. 3. Click the Not yet registered? or Register link. The registration web-form opens. 4. Enter your first (given) name and last name (surname). 5. Enter the email address you wish to use with EMMa. 6. Enter a password of your own choice – your password must meet the criteria listed in Password requirements. An invalid password will generate an error message: 7. Confirm your password by reentering precisely the same password in the Confirm password field. You do not need to enter a user name – this will be assigned by the system. 8. Read the ECDC terms of service and privacy policy carefully, and, if you can accept the terms and policy, click the I agree check-box. 9. Enter the text or code displayed in the blank field at the bottom of the challenge-response authentication frame. If the code is illegible, click the 10. Click Create account. icon to generate a new code. A message is displayed saying that an email will now be sent to the entered email address. 11. Open the e-mail and click on the link to activate your account. The Choose Applications webpage opens. 12. Note the username that has been assigned to you. 13. Check the EMMa check-box. 14. Click Select. 15. Select External user (clear your browser’s cache if you cannot select External user). 16. Log on with the assigned username from step 12 above and the password you chose in step 6 above. Password requirements Your password must meet the following requirements: Not be a password that you previously have used. Not contain your username or parts of your full name. Be at least six characters in length. Contain characters from three of the following four categories: o English uppercase characters (A through Z) o English lowercase characters (a through z) o Base 10 digits (0 through 9) o Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %) Please note that your password is case sensitive. These requirements are also enforced when passwords are created or changed. Accessing EMMa Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is the recommended browser for all ECDC applications. If you use a different browser, there is no guarantee that all functions and features will work all of the time. EMMa uses Silverlight© functionality; a Silverlight plugin is available for other browsers, see http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ for more information. To access EMMa: 1. Enter the EMMa Portal’s URL https://emma.ecdc.europa.eu in your browser’s address bar, or click on the link in the Data & Tools webpage on the ECDC Portal. 2. Log on with your username and password acquired when registering (see Registering as a user). The EMMa home page opens. 3. Familiarise yourself with the information on the home page. 4. Click . The home page opens. Note that you can now open the EMMa online help. IMPORTANT: You will find a series of quick-start exercises in the online help. If you have not used a GIS system before, we recommend you to go through these exercises so that you can discover how easy it is to use EMMa . Logging on to EMMa After you have registered as a user and completed your first session in EMMa, the next time you access EMMa you will be taken to the ECDC Login webpage. Enter the username assigned to you (see Registering as a user) and your password and click Sign In. For information on changing or resetting your password, see the EMMa online help or User Manual.
