Since Don joined in 1962, MNP has risen by revenue to rank consistently among the top accounting firms in Canada. Don graduated from Virden Collegiate and received his Chartered Accountant designation from the Manitoba Institute in 1963 with Fellow Chartered Accountant following in 1984. Brandon University honoured Don by presenting him with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree and he has been appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of 26th Field Regiment RCA, a prestigious appointment bestowed in recognition of distinct Canadian citizens. More recently Don has been distinguished by receiving two other awards, firstly being appointed a member of the Order of Canada and the Life Time Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba. Don is deeply committed to maintaining the profession of accountancy’s well-regarded reputation at all levels. Nationally, he has served on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Board of Governors, was active on numerous committees, and was Chairman from 1995-98. Don has been involved, again exemplifying his commitment to life-long learning, with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba where he served as Chairman from 1985–86 and with Associated Accounting Firms International. Don has demonstrated commitment in community involvement through the Brandon Economic Development Board, Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, SW Manitoba Kinsmen Club, Brandon Minor Hockey, United Way, Indian & Métis Friendship Centre, Jeux du Canada Winter Games 1979, Rural Grow Bonds, and Wasagaming Golf Club. G R A ND C H I E F S H E I L A N O R T H WI L S O N H O N O R A R Y CH AIR, 2017 CO URAG E AWARD A member of Bunibonibee Cree Nation, Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson moved to Winnipeg at age 15 to pursue her education. Grand Chief values the educational opportunities she has had, completing two diplomas from Assiniboine Community College in Business Accounting and Rural Development focusing on community development. After completing her diplomas at Assiniboine, she decided to pursue a career in journalism obtaining further education from Academy of Broadcasting Corporation and Red River College. She is currently completing a degree in Political Science at the University of Winnipeg. Prior to becoming the Grand Chief of MKO in September 2015, Sheila North Wilson worked as a CBC journalist for seven years, an entrepreneur, Cree translator, economic development officer, radio personality, Chief Communication Officer at Assembly for Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), and as a correspondent with CTV News. Grand Chief North WIlson has also led many other initiatives related to advancing Indigenous issues in Canada. During her time at AMC, she helped to galvanize national and local movements including actions in response to the Crown-First Nations Gatherings that were held in 2012, developing communications strategies to engage both grassroots and Indigenous leadership in consultation and accommodation issues with respect to natural resource extraction, and a national engagement strategy to respond to the First Nations Education Act proposed by the federal government in 2014. A gifted writer and listener who brings passion, empathy and commitment to her leadership, Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson is a multiple Radio-Television News Directors Association award winner and Gemini Award nominee. She has been recognized for her efforts building bridges of understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities during her time in media and most recently as the leader of MKO.
