The service provider is the Division of Enterprise Technology, and the service consumers are all state agencies and local governments who have subscribed to this service. The ActiveSync Service will allow users with ActiveSync enabled devices, such as a Smartphone, to connect with the Enterprise Email Environment (EEE) as described in the DET Email Service Offering. Both State of Wisconsin owned devices and personally owned devices may subscribe to this service. What is Included Ability to connect wirelessly to the EEE ActiveSync activation on the user’s mailbox in the EEE The security policy required for successful synchronization Data elements required for activation What Is Not Included Device activation Device testing Device support Data/records retention Security policy customizations Wireless data plan (provided by a wireless carrier) Benefits ActiveSync allows wireless data users similar functionality to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Service Offering with: A different cost structure A larger selection of devices Additional features not found in the BlackBerry ecosystem. 4 Service Description ActiveSync provides wireless access to the EEE through ActiveSync enabled devices. This is possible when the following conditions are met: The requesting user has engaged their agency telecom manager for approval of the activation request. Requests must come from an agency telecom manager or approved delegate. The request includes required billing information. See http://www.doa.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=6642 for more information. The requesting user has a mailbox in the EEE. The device is provisionable (it can accept the security policy* required by DET for activation). Not all devices with ActiveSync are provisionable**. DET requires device encryption as a part of the security policy for ActiveSync. Some older devices do not support device encryption and therefore will not successfully synch with the EEE through ActiveSync. DET will not maintain a list of supported devices. Users requesting activation of personally owned devices must sign a waiver releasing the DET from any responsibility for lost data, applications, or content. See http://www.doa.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=8069 for more information. * The DET security policy is meant to mimic the security policy utilized for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Service Offering Definition. The following components comprise the ActiveSync security policy: A complex password is required (minimum 6 characters and alphanumeric) After 5 unsuccessful password entry attempts, the device wipes all data and settings After 30 minutes (max) of inactivity, the device locks Device encryption is mandatory. This includes encryption of the device and any removable storage attached to the device. Password recovery through Outlook Web Access is enabled Passwords expire after 60 days ** Provisionable describes a device that has ActiveSync and can accept all mandatory policies from the Exchange Server Service Period February 1 through June 30 reviewed and renewed annually. Roles and Responsibilities Roles and Responsibilities for the ActiveSync service can be found here. 5 How Services Are Charged There are no charges associated with this service. Please see the IT Services Rate Sheet for rate information. Cost-Saving Tips It is strongly recommended that users of ActiveSync choose unlimited data plans with their wireless service provider. In terms of data use, ActiveSync is best described as “chatty”. Actual data usage may be much higher than expected related to device usage. 6
