The Drama Department of Charles Herbert Flowers High School invites you to our annual spring production. “Motown and Mo - The Musical” is an original musical revue written, directed, and produced by Ms. Shanelle Ingram featuring the songs of various artists from the Motown Era and beyond. This show will take you on an African American cultural journey through word, music and dance. Much of the African American experience from the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s to the current “Black Lives Matters” movement has been expressed through music. The Motown era was an era of growing creativity, cultural awareness, and ethnic pride. Motown artists such as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson are two mega artists who had a colossal effect on the American culture in many ways. CHFHS students will perform powerful and passionate songs that captured the various moods and entertainment life of a historical era of African Americans by many artists from Motown and Mo. (Synonyms: delay, stall) PROCEDURES FOR DELAYED OPENINGS AND EARLY CLOSINGS DELAYED OPENING – Start of school two hours later than the usual time: If it is necessary to delay the opening of school because of inclement weather, dangerous road conditions, or any other emergency which might arise, an announcement will be broadcast over radio stations before 6:30 a.m. It will also be broadcast on Channel 96 and various other television stations, and posted on the school system’s web page – www.pgcps.org or www.schools-out.com. After 6:00 a.m., staff and parents can also access the school system’s Voice Mail Bulletin Board by calling 301.952.6000. Wait for the opening message, and then press number 1. A recorded message will indicate delayed openings or school closings. In addition, the school system’s cable television station, Channel 96, will broadcast a “crawl” message. TWO-HOUR DELAY: Schools will begin two hours later than normal. All fieldtrips will be cancelled. EARLY CLOSING FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER, EMERGENCIES, AND OTHER PROBLEMS – Dismissal of schools prior to the regular closing time: An announcement will be made prior to 10:15 a.m. whenever possible. All after-school activities and events are cancelled. Food services will provide breakfast and lunch. The second Guidance Tea of the 2016 - 2017 school year will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017. A Guidance Tea is a time for parents to get a quick update on their child’s progress. If you desire a longer conference, please contact your child’s counselor. Report cards will be officially released on February 9th.
