Improve Your Health Explore The Dales Enjoy The Company Get Active Derbyshire Dales Walking for Health Guide January to March 2016 A programme of led walks across the Derbyshire Dales, supporting local communities to maintain active lifestyles and improve the health and wellbeing of local people. 1 2 Hello and Welcome… to the January to March edition of the Derbyshire Dales Walking for Health Guide. Entry Level Walk: Up to 30 minutes Suitable for people who have not walked much before, are working to be more active, or are returning from injury or illness. The walks are on flat ground or gentle slopes with mainly firm surfaces with no stiles. Very Easy Walk: 30 – 75 minutes Suitable for people looking for gentle exercise, to lose weight and have a more active lifestyle. Routes are chosen to ensure the walks are on good surfaces and designed to increase your heart rate. Easy Walk: 60 – 90 minutes The walks will suit walkers who would like to go that bit further. Walks may include stiles and slight uphill and downhill on rougher terrain. Moderate and Long Progression Walks: 90 – 120/120 – 180 minutes Longer, more challenging walks which are likely to include stiles, uphill and downhill walking on rougher terrain. Ashbourne Weekly Progression Walks Wednesdays – 10.30am, Long walks: 120 – 180 minutes Meet at Ashbourne Leisure Centre and share cars to go on the best walks in the southern Dales and beyond. Fridays – 10.00am, Moderate Walks: 90 – 120 minutes Meet at Ashbourne Leisure Centre. We sometimes walk from the Leisure Centre and sometimes car share to a starting point within a 10 minutes drive from the Leisure Centre. 5 Tideswell Wednesday Easy Walks, 10.00am Tideswell walks meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at Fountain Square, adjacent to the public toilets. We also share cars to walk further afield. Easy 60 – 90 minute walks around Tideswell and the surrounding area. Wednesdays Tideswell, 10.00am January 6 20 February 3 17 2 March 16 Youlgrave Tuesday Easy Walk, 60 – 90 minutes, , 10.30am Meet at Coldwell End Car Park in the village for an easy walk around Youlgrave area, Birchover and Stanton in Peak. Walking on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. We also share cars to walk further afield. The walks might involve about 400 feet of ascent and descent with 2 refreshment stops. Please bring food, drink and a ‘sit mat’. Finish time around 2.30pm. As all walks will be supported by trained walk leaders and suitable for buggies and pushchairs. The walks are designed to be social and enjoyable and enable parents to build on their fitness in a comfortable and safe environment without having to worry about childcare. NEW WALK IN HURST FARM, MATLOCK Also starting in the New Year a series of short easy walks in and around Hurst Farm and neighbourhood designed for people who have not walked much before and want to get active again. CELEBRATE WALKING TOGETHER WALKS Come and join us on our Walking Together Walks. Rowsley, Wednesday 16 March, 10.30am. Meet and park at Peak Village Walkers Car Park (free) for at least 3 different level walks – along into the Chatsworth Estate, up towards Stanton Moor and the 9 Ladies standing stones.
