Eligibility R equirements for Public E nglish S chools QUEBEC REGULATION RESPECTING REQUESTS TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN ENGLISH In order to qualify for E nglish InstrucFon in Quebec Public S chools, students must meet certain eligibility criteria under the Charter of the F rench Language as set out by the Quebec government. The applicaFons for the cerFficate of eligibility will be done at the same Fme. If your case is a more complicated one, you may be asked to contact the Admissions Office. A_er J UNE 1st, ALL APPLICATIONS ( Elementary or S econdary) for CerFficate of E ligibility must be done at the S chool B oard. For K indergarten, the child must be 5 years of age on or before S eptember 30th. For G rade 1, the child must be 6 years of age on or before S eptember 30th. If yes, • B ring the CerFficate of E ligibility and original long form birth cerFficate showing parents' names directly to the school your child will be afending. Does the student have a parent who has his/her cer)ficate of eligibility or a sibling who has already been declared eligible? If yes, • Provide the parent or sibling's CerFficate of E ligibility • If the sibling's CerFficate of E ligibility indicates that one parent differs from the parents on the child's B irth CerFficate, please provide proof of Canadian CiFzenship of the common parent to both children. • Provide child's original Long F orm B irth CerFficate, showing parents' names. • If using Parent’s CerFficate of E ligibility, please provide proof of that parent’s Canadian ciFzenship. If using a sibling’s eligibility, please provide proof of Canadian ciFzenship of parent who rendered sibling eligible. If uncertain, provide for both parents. • B ring these documents (originals) directly to the school your child will be afending. Did one Parent receive the majority of English Elementary educa)on in Q uebec before August 1977? If yes, • Provide child’s original Long F orm B irth CerFficate and complete registraFon at school. You will then be directed to the Admissions Office of the S chool B oard. Parent must provide us with the names of the schools and years afended. Proof of Canadian ciFzenship of that parent must be provided. Did one Parent receive the majority of English Elementary Schooling in C anada? If yes, • Provide lefer (on official school lefer head) of proof of majority of primary educaFon in English (100%) or percentage of E nglish and percentage of F rench if applicable. • Provide proof of Canadian CiFzenship of parent who was educated in Canada. • Provide child's Original Long F orm B irth CerFficate showing parents' names. Has the child received or is currently receiving the majority of English Elementary or Secondary school in English in C anada? If yes, • Provide an original lefer (on official school lefer head) of majority of primary and/or secondary educaFon in E nglish or (in E nglish and F rench) if applicable. • Provide proof of Canadian CiFzenship of one parent. • Provide child's Original Long F orm B irth CerFficate showing parents' names. (Parents may be required to provide addiFonal documentaFon, depending on the situaFon.) Does the child have a sibling who has received or is receiving the majority of English elementary or secondary school in C anada? If yes, • Provide an original lefer (on official school lefer head) of majority of primary and/or secondary educaFon in E nglish or percentage in E nglish and percentage in F rench if applicable. • Provide proof of Canadian CiFzenship of one parent. • Provide child's Original Long F orm B irth CerFficate showing parents' names. (Parents may be required to provide addiFonal documentaFon, depending on the situaFon.) Did the student or a sibling a]end an English Private School in Q uebec? (Law 115 (October 2010) may apply to your child. Please contact Admissions for more informa)on.) Are the parents residing in Q uebec temporarily on a S TUDY P ERMIT or W ORK AUTHORIZATION? If yes, • Provide V ALID Work or S tudy AuthorizaFon of parent. • Provide child's Original Long F orm B irth CerFficate showing parents' names (must be in English or F rench or have an official translaFon) and ImmigraFon papers for the whole family. Is the family here on Diploma)c status? If yes, • Provide lefer of Protocol of parent and lefer of afestaFon for child/children from Protocol Quebec. •Provide child's Long Version B irth CerFficate showing parents' names (must be in E nglish or French or have an official translaFon). If the parents status in Canada changes from Temporary S tay to Permanent R esident the Temporary S tay CerFficate of E ligibility cannot be renewed. How to obtain a Long version B irth CerFficate To register your child with the Lester B . Pearson S chool B oard, an original long version birth cerFficate bearing the parents' names is required by the Ministry of E ducaFon, Leisure & Sports.
