DA2014-58 March 11, 2014 ENMAX Power Corporation 141 50th Avenue S.E. Calgary, Alberta T2G 4S7 Attention: Grant Weismiller Director, Regulatory Affairs Reconfiguration of Transmission Structures at ENMAX No. 15S Substation Application No. 1610317 Proceeding ID No. 3077 Letter of enquiry approval ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power), by Application No. 1610317, registered on February 18, 2014, filed a letter of enquiry with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC or the Commission) under Section 11 of the Hydro and Electric Energy Regulation for approval to remove the existing 69-kilovolt underground cable at ENMAX No. 15S substation and replace it with overhead conductors, including the addition of three wooden transmission structures within the substation fenced area and one just outside of the fenced area. The proposed work is in relation to facilities previously constructed and operating in accordance with approvals granted in Permits and Licences No. EN 98-12,1 No. U2005-209, 2 and No. U2010-132, 3 for ENMAX No. 15S substation, transmission line 69-15.60L, and transmission line 15.62L, respectively. ENMAX No. 15S substation is located in the southwest quarter of Section 26, Township 24, Range 2, west of the Fifth Meridian, at the street address of 1411 Home Road N.W., Calgary. ENMAX Power submitted its reason for requesting the reconfiguration of transmission structures was that an insulating pothead that transitions electrical power from underground cable to overhead lines failed catastrophically on a lattice structure just outside of ENMAX No. 15S substation causing damage to nearby properties. ENMAX Power stated that removing the potheads and abandoning the underground cable would prevent future failures. ENMAX Power consulted with the parties directly affected by the proposed route realignment and confirmed that there were no objections. In accordance with the requirements of Section 12 of the Hydro and Electric Energy Regulation, ENMAX Power has provided information respecting the need, nature, extent, land affected, land ownership and the timing of the work. ENMAX Power has also stated that no adverse environmental impact will be caused by the proposed work. 1 2 3 Permit and Licence No. EN 98-12, Application No. 970516, January 5, 1998.
