Daylight Saving
Shut-Eye
Most of the nation
will spring forward on
Sunday, March 12,
when daylight saving
time begins.
According to research,
the average person
loses about 40
minutes of sleep on
the first night after the
time change begins.
To avoid being groggy
Monday and to help
your internal clock
adjust, experts suggest
going to bed a little
earlier than usual
starting several days
before the change.

Unlucky Ides
Every year on
March 15, it’s likely you’ll
hear someone say,
“Beware the ides of
March!” So what are ides,
and why should we be
wary of them? In truth,
there’s really nothing to
fear: On the Ancient
Roman calendar, “ides”
was simply a word for the
halfway point of a month
when the full moon
usually arrived. However,
Julius Caesar made the
ides of March famous
when he was assassinated
on that day in 44 B.C. In
William Shakespeare’s
play about the famous
leader, a fortune teller
shouts the “Beware the
ides of March!” warning,
sealing the date’s fate as
an unlucky omen.

Hot Tamale
The next time you eat
at a Mexican restaurant,
consider ordering a
tamale. One of the most
beloved traditional foods
in Latin America, a
tamale consists of various
fillings inside a cornbased dough, which is
wrapped in a corn husk
or banana leaf. (The
wrapping is removed
before eating.) The
tamale was developed
thousands of years ago as
a portable dish that could
be eaten cold or warmed
over a fire. National
Tamale Day is recognized
every year on March 23.

Talk About It
Hello,
My Name Is ...
Your name is
an identifier that
you usually carry
throughout your life.
Take a moment to
reflect on yours,
then call family and
friends together
for a discussion
about names.
Do you know how
your parents chose
your name? Were you
named after anyone?
What does your
name say about your
family heritage?
Are you known by
your first, middle or
last name, or a
nickname? Which one
do you prefer? If you
have a nickname,
explain how you
got it.
Did you like your
name when you were
growing up? What
about now? Why or
why not?
Have you met a lot
of people who have
the same first or last
name as you?
If you could pick a
different name for a
day, what would it
be? Why would you
choose it?
Happy
Birthday

What a fabulous month February was for all of us here. We had sweet children
visiting us from a local school for Valentine’s Day. They brought us cards they had
made for us. We shared laughs and had fun together. We also had a Super Bowl
party and cheered on our favorite teams. What an exciting game it was! Too many
snacks were eaten and enjoyed by all.
March is upon us, and we are geared up for a month of fun. We are going all-out
for Saint Patrick’s Day. We are wearing green, kissing the Blarney Stone, and
pretending to be Irish (even if we are not!). We might even find that pot of gold at
the end of the rainbow...who knows? Perhaps a leprechaun or two might be
spotted...you just never know around here.
Also, don’t forget March Madness with lots of great college basketball games to
cheer on. Popcorn and root beer will be available as well. We have several residents
who used to play in high school. They have some interesting stories to tell.
